I fuelled up here yesterday diesel I can't remember the price, geez the queue was crazy never again not worth the 12p a litre saving imho. Btw is there a way to enter the store without going for fuel, do you go through on the right lane but then that takes you straight on the dual carriageway?

There's a back entrance to the underground car park (when you're coming from star city, on the left before you go onto the next roundabout)

Queues are awful. But if your near Wolverhampton which isnt far from Birmingham then it's 1.35 in Sainsbury's in Wolverhampton

Is the price difference between standard and premium unleaded reasonable?
    JPS's avatar
    JPS
A little steep at 10p/litre. Premium is usually 6-7p more than standard unleaded from the supermarkets. (edited)

Should be so much less than this now oil prices are well down. We are getting ripped off by all of them, some by a little, some by a lot.

Tried to take advantage of being close to the Sheffield Costco last night and I must say I won’t be trying it on a Saturday again. The queue when you are inside the parking lot is about 10-15 mins and yesterday it was already queuing half a mile away from the store (not even joking) causing the blockages of the slip road leading onto the motorway. So that was easily an hour wait if not more. Never again. (edited)

That will be the dual carriage way not motorway

Only paid £1.50 for 99ron in Gloucester on Friday. Not a massive gap between prices if you’re savvy

It is when you factor in costco only sell premium diesel. Check prem derv at other garages at its a big difference.

I did wonder how some supermarkets were undercutting Costco petrol stations (this didn't used to be the case).
My theory is that Costco are now keeping fuel prices artificially high due to the revenue lost of people who are getting fuel who aren't members. This must be a fair amount of lost revenue for costco and guess they have to claw it back somehow.
Just a theory, but if Costco were to enforce physical inspections of membership cards in before entry to the fuel station. Im confident the queue would be a lot smaller!
    Tonya22's avatar
    Tonya22
Well if that is true, they should have their membership revoked. They do now ask you to scan your card on entering the warehouse now rather than a visual check.

My local Costco is 12p a L cheaper than some other local stations. I save a good few £££ a year .

Cheaper and less hassle to run a petrol car in preference to an EV

....so... why is the price difference between petrol and diesel so obscene everywhere else ...?

Profiteering. Even these Costco prices are a total ripoff compared to what it should be. Brent crude is currently back to where it was in the summer of 2021. Are fuel prices? Hell no. And that's with 6p in duty off as well.

Same with gas prices. Back to where it was in summer 2021 but we are all happily being ripped off with energy prices.

They just seem to make sure they’re cheapest locally, for hay dock that competition is a shell by the motorway and a very expensive Asda station on its own. So for a while I could fill up in Widnes, as cheap or cheaper that Costco. Who aren’t deemed local competition.

But queues, travel, etc. it’s about a fiver saving atm, we go about once a fortnight anyway as kids like having tea there, and we get a few bits that are cheap (cheese mostly)
    monkeyhanger75's avatar
    monkeyhanger75
Definitely. They're not cheap for being cheapest sake. They just sim to beat their local competition. Costco Gateshead aims to beat Metrocentre Adsa by a penny a litre, nothing more or less than that.
