These use Peltier-effect heat 'pumps' so are limited in the temperature differential they can achieve, unlike a compressor-based cooling system with refrigerant gas. They also take a suprisingly high amount of current over 12V as I found to my cost when I left one plugged in in my boot whilst at a theme park for the day: the food wasn't that chilled at lunchtime and it'd flattened my car battery to the point it wouldn't start by closing time!

These would probably be okay for keeping pre-chilled stuff cool on a long car journey, but a normal cool box with several freezer blocks would suffice for most people.

Had two of these for many years - they are brilliant and this is an amazingly cheap price compared with others on the market. Well done Sammy

Thanks op. I was hoping to get a bit bigger one but at this price it's definitely a bargain. 11 left in the newer Worcester store now.

I wanted a coolbox, none electric.

But saw this in lidl, last one

I live 30m away from a large supermarket now, and during summer I stay in hotels a lot at weekends, plus days out! I can use it as a fridge in the hotel room.

    Many uses, win.

Edit; shame the off button doesn't actually turn it off... (edited)

    Great price op.

We have an old Halfords one, which we take when we go for long journeys and have packed lunch in there, keeps it really cool (I hate warm salads!!). We do add a couple of freeze packs in there to help especially in the summer.

Got one of these a few years back, if going on long journeys we used to plug it into the mains over night to get it as cold as possible, then just before leaving add a couple of freezer packs with all your drinks and foodstuffs and plug straight into the car auxiliary / cigarette lighter socket and it kept items really cool for many hours. Unfortunately it only works off the mains now so will probably buy this one. Heat from me.

I've one of these. This very one from Lidl.

They don't cool as much as a fridge, and you'll get better results putting a pre frozen ice pack in the box (as it it was a non powered cooler).

Only use it when the engines running, or if you have a dual battery set up.

They are also a bit noisy at night if you take one into a hotel room, although the noise varies with the fan speed (which you set for the temperature level).

I've one sitting out to go camping next weekend if anyone has any questions.

Paid £20 for it, when they'd loads left.

Would this keep a pint of milk fresh for a few days in the summer months?

As you say quite power hungry, find mine useful though!

Great deal. I've been looking for a decent sized cool box for camping. Since this is both mains and 12v it's even better. Heat added.

Nipped out today and managed to get one with a couple left on the shelf. 3 year warranty on this is brilliant!

I have one and found it rubbish - loads of water collects inside and it can't evaporate so everything gets soaked. It also randomly switches itself off (crap electronics)
  24. LordFlashHeart's avatar
I've used mine for up to a week when camping but that was on electric hookup (they consume around 4amps an hour in high mode). One thing of note is these are quite loud when turned up but other than that they are a great alternative to a fridge.

Yes definitely, I bought the same one several years ago and have got many long weekends out of a 4pt of milk. They are brilliant even in warmer weather, just make sure you keep it on and on cool setting, it’s easy to knock it on to hot accidentally!
  26. amoulden's avatar
Cool the box down first for a couple of hours before adding food and put some frozen freezer packs in too and they are great. Bonus that they work with the cigarette lighter and mains.....not many do without an adapter (edited)
  27. wdh's avatar
I have an older (very similar) one. Agree that the power cooling doesn't really do more than could be done with some frozen packs, but it does have the prospect of maintaining the coolness for longer! And it is a decent-sized coolbox anyway...
