Tip: make sure you fit the cable to the drive the right way up! Despite looking like a standard USB-C connector, one way gives dramatically better speeds than the other. The note in the packaging is easy to overlook.

Does anyone know what the modern tv usb ports will read as maximum drives?

Im on a samsung 500gb external ssd but wanted to go to a 4tb or 2tb drive...

    I have a samsung 43" qled 2022 model

Depends on make and model of the TV. PC's use a partitioning format called GUID Partition Table (GPT). A TV might not recognise that regardless of size, check your manufacturer (most main brands do though). Once you have a drive it does recognise (like your Samsung 500GB drive), it then becomes about recognising the whole drive and above 2TB that becomes an issue. A solution is to re-partition the drive (through Windows on your PC) so that it uses an MBR (Master Boot Record). That will give you 2 partitions the TV recognises, a 2TB partition and whatever is left (So on a 4TB drive it'll be 2TB and 2TB, on a 6TB drive it'll be 2TB and 4TB etc).

Does this drive come with software to password protect the drive?

Don't know but if you have Windows 11 Pro you can use Bitlocker to encrypt the drive, otherwise you need 3rd party software.

However you can use the FREE Open Source software called Veracrypt > veracrypt.fr/en/…tml
