Aldi and Lidl had better bargains a couple of years ago, their prices have increased as they have stocked more branded items and introduced fresh meats and in store bakeries, plus it now takes ages to checkout because of the number of people doing much larger shops, they just don't have the number of checkout staff, normally only 3, compared to the mainstream shops with 5 to 8 checkout assistants. I only shop at my Aldi at about 3 term time as all the mothers are collecting kids from school and its quieter!

Exactly right. I do my main shop @ Tescos and topup shops at Sainsburys the customer service in Aldi/Lidl is terrible.

The £5 off voucher is on (or had been on) the 4th Thursday of every month, not the last Thursday. The 4th Thursday is today,so maybe it is the end?
  5. foxmeister's avatar
It's the last Thursday in the month so the £5 voucher will be in next Thursday the 30th.

I don't think the people predicting next week are correct, I bought a paper and this looks like the voucher you will get this month, it's an 8 page pullout as always, same money off vouchers, just no fiver off.

If you look on Aldi's Facebook page, they state in the comments that the £5 vouchers have been discontinued for the time being.

Looks like they are spending the £5 off voucher funding on advertising. Loads of Aldi adverts on telly lately.
  9. bargainbill's avatar
Exactly, they won't make any money on the £5 off shops, but bank you'll make Aldi your regular shop after trying it. Guess they feel that they have the momentum now so don't need to offer the discount. Good for them, I did my first Tesco shop for 6 months yesterday and was exauated trying to figure out which of the 10 options for every selection was best value. That's why I like Aldi, you always know what you pay is fair no matter what goes in the trolley

Well I was shopping at Aldi way before these vouchers and I'll continue to shop there now they've stopped. I enjoy their products, prices, ease of getting around the store and simplicity of shopping there. I am still saving loads shopping there, voucher or no voucher. Maybe this will mean less queuing for me : )

****, I was hoping the £5 voucher was today.

Load of rubbish, I hope they don't start resting on their laurels as shoppers have learnt now finally that loyalty is a fools errand

So true! Since I've converted to Aldi and Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons keep sending me offers- they didn't when I shopped there regularly!

I doubt it, sometimes previously the offer has been the week before when the last Thursday is the last day or 2 of the month, I suspect that this is all we are getting this month, which based on the couple of offers that I might use doesn't make it worth buying the paper for. I fear that the £5 vouchers might only appear at certain times of the year from now on. Watch daily mirror sales drop.

Annoyed just bought a paper and no £5, hardly worth trekking to ALDI as there are hardly savings enough to make back my 55p

Regardless of the £5 off voucher Aldi is still great value for money.

Right that's it, I'm off back to Waitrose ;-)

Completely off subject, but got some cracking frozen summer fruits in Aldi for £1.49 (a whole £1 cheaper than Lidl for pretty much same volume). Damn you Aldi, you got your hooks into me for life now.
  23. retrogeezer's avatar
yep, more often than not it is the SECOND TO LAST THURSDAY of the month not the last one.
  24. mocmocamoc's avatar
Interesting, I guess they're doing an experiment, they've messed about with the values of the vouchers, raised the spend limit, etc. Maybe they're going to see if people shop at ALDI without the voucher.

I tried shopping at lidl this afternoon, much the same choice, but if they're doing a fiver off 40 I'll be going there. Looks like the same stuff just different packaging. See you in a while aldi!
  26. retrogeezer's avatar
I won't be spending so much in there as I'm sure many others won't either. I usually stock up on things I don't really need to get over £40 so will probably spend half that!

That is a shame that the Aldi voucher is dead though my wife will be happy that I am not buying unnecessarily just to use the £5 voucher. I used to do a shop in Aldi once in a month to use the voucher and the rest of shopping from Tesco as they regularly send a 10-15% voucher and with delivery saver it is no brainer when used on products on offer. I like the non-food in Aldi as sometimes you will find something really good but most of those were impulse purchases and not being used for years.
  28. sag's avatar
Their ploy could be working (at least on me anyway). I have been shopping there once a month with the vouchers and was waiting for this months voucher again to go and stock up on the products I have converted over to getting from Aldi. As I still needed to stock up on them I went last night and did my shop spending £73 so they are definitely £5 better off than they would have been. Over time this probably will impact how much I shop there as I'll try lidl if I get a voucher and neither Aldi or lidl are particularly close to me so Sainsburys will probably benefit.
  29. retrogeezer's avatar
oh, I've been shopping there for donkeys years as well but the £5 voucher made me stock up on things. Fact is, other retailers have lowered prices and I now buy from a variety of different stores. When I had the £5 voucher, it all went to Aldi.

Looks like a switch to Lidl,(as long as they keep doing the money saving vouchers)
Result = Aldi lose Lidl win! = Customer wins!!
  31. retrogeezer's avatar
Not even any money off vouchers this month then?? Shame, I'm spending my money in Tesco at the moment as they keep sending me £2 or £3 off £20 spend vouchers.
