About this deal

Normally around £150 and the cheapest down sleeping bag I could find at this temperature rating by some distance.

The code takes this down to £85.50.

This is a great 3 season sleeping bag with a weight of only 750g.

Great for backpacking.

I got free delivery using the code but I think that may have been in error??

Product Description

Deuter Astro 300 Sleeping Bag
Guaranteeing a warm night's sleep, the Astro 300 Down Sleeping bag is a great addition to your camping gear.
Keeping you warm and cosy on camping trips, the Astro 300 will ensure comfort even on colder nights. The sleeping bag has a trapezoidal chamber design which prevents the formation of cold spots, and with a baffle construction retains heat further. The down included to keep you warm and cosy is produced in line with the Responsible Down Standards. Additionally, the bag has an ErgoFoot Pro structure which provides you with additional space in the 3D ergonomic foot box, meaning your feet remain comfortable, preventing restrictive movement when sleeping. An ergonomically shaped hood will provide you with extra warmth and coverage during cold weather sleeping conditions. An inner pocket allows you to stash your belongings close by and safe, and a 2-way zipper allows you to control the airflow and ensures an easy open/close construction. Packing it away couldn't be made easier with the 2 stage compression stuff sack that's included, and once packed away two drawcords make it easy to close.

Good price and weight, but it might not suit me many people for 3 seasons, if it's only a +3 bag ('comfort' = male) (+7 for women = 'limit'). 600 fill power is the lower end of down bags, and check if it's hydrophobic to be of some use if it gets damp (usefully for sweat and condensation reducing the warmth.
I've got a 300g 700 fill down bag and if you hold it up to the light you can see clumps and empty patches, which will be cold spots. Gets worse with more use.
Good as a lightweight summer bag probably.

I could not find a comparable bag from a reputable brand for similar cost.

Deuter manufacturers these to avoid the clumping of down you experienced.

Just getting into camping & currently trying to snap up stuff. For a beginner, can anyone suggest a lot cheaper sleeping bag that's half decent ( if that's possible?!) thanks

You could buy a synthetic second hand and just throw it in the washing machine.
Otherwise the same retailer has a good price on a synthetic one £36 incl code.

It's only 1kg which is decent for the temperature rating.

A lot depends on what type of camping you intend to do...If you're on a campsite rucking up with your car there are quite a few cheaper options around that'll be really warm but may be too bulky/heavy if you're planning to carry it in a rucksack....

You need to select UK version from the drop down menu.

If that's the UK version then what does the US version look like 😬

Also, it's worth comparing the specs with a synth bag. E.g. an OEX fathom 200 is advertised as just 2 star, but has the same +7, +3 rating, is £55 and weighs only 50g more @800g (edited)

I was of the understanding that OEX temperature ratings are inflated. Down vs. Synthetic for the same weight the down will warmer.

    Hands down...

To me, 3 season would be 500g of down, 300g I would class as 2 season..
    peakbear's avatar
Agreed - the description doesn't mention 3 seasons though, I don't think? A 3 season bag should get you down to below freezing while I would guess this would struggle. Somebody has commented that they have used winter camping though and been warm.

At first I thought it was a Gyros

This has better specs and is cheaper but not down. Really want something with a limit below 0

Maybe handy if we get a cold winter and have to find out if a tv remote works through material?
