I’ve tried a few backing plates and the Velcro pad ripped off - these were good brands as well such as Meguiars.
I wouldn’t usually buy Silverline tools, but their backing plates have been faultless and only a few £s from Amazon.
Edit: Sorry, after research it looks like you can't change the backing pad size on this DeWalt Model as you can with other DA polishers. (edited)
But, this is a bargain. What do I do, what do I do. Now I'm just waffling to strangers on a website.
Are there are any recommendations as to cloths, pads etc to use with the machine? Some of the Meguiars pads (e.g. DMF5) do seem well reviewed but others still very much a fan of the foam pads. This wouldn’t be for any serious corrections - mostly just the light polish.
Historically I’ve used Autoglym’s super-resin polish when applying by hand - is that still appropriate for use here?
Apologies for what I am sure are very basic questions - usually answered best in advance of the power tool arriving… ;-)
I've had mixed results with pads and tried Lake Country (highly rated), Meguiar’s pads and unbranded from Amazon. Nearly all of them have failed when using them at higher speeds that are required for removal of swirls/scratches and, whilst you highlight that you won't be doing serious corrections, this is probably the most important/satisfying stage, as most cars have swirls that these will remove and give the foundation to a brilliant finish. For the pads in this compound polish stage, even a Meguiar's foam pad only lasted, from new, after completing 1/2 of the bonnet and was sent back! Got fed up of returning/throwing foam pads away during the compound polish stage and tried a different sort in the Meguiar's DMC6 Detailer DA Microfibre Cutting Disc that seems to be holding up well.
Whilst polishing or applying the wax then the speeds are a lot slower and I've had no issues with foam pads failing. I've also used the Autoglym’s super-resin polish with my DA Polisher and it's a good one to use with a DA Polisher - remember that'll only enhance the colour, but not protect it so a wax in the the next stage is needed.
Can't wait to try this DA Polisher as it's very highly reviewed.
