Often inappropriately described as “old fashioned” this is not a device for just the single slice or dice but the mandoline is an excellent tool for rapidly preparing volumes of sliced or diced fruit and vegetables. Like many good tools, not ideal for the unskilled or those with a predisposition to clumsiness as a slip will prove !

Make a space in your cupboard for it after the first use it will live there for evermore until you eventually bin it.

or bin it after first use when you (or should that be "when I") dispense with the guard and take the top off your thumb

Is it a grater, or a grater though?
