Had these sort of things running fine for years (from cpc i think) but there's some very scary 1* reviews for this model

Yes the two melting plug reviews would make me steer clear (and I'd always avoid these no name extension leads as a matter of principle and liking non flamable products)

Would anyone recommend any solid extension lead (6-8 sockets, don't need usb ports as I have decent 3 ports charger) with at least one on/off switch or each side switch or individually switched. I need good quality product, price doesn't matter... (edited)

Traditionally Masterplug and Belkin were the branded extension leads to get. About 10+ years I got a 10 socket masterplug tower and a 8 socket one, they are still both going fine.

I've only found a Masterplug 6 socket at Screwfix, can't share link as they are banned.
Philips also do a 5 socket individual switched extension Link

Apart from the above you could take a risk with these unknown branded ones, just check the quality and obviously any extension lead would fry itself if you plug in powerful appliances that draw more power then it's rated for.

Looking at the reviews, I'm not sure this can handle the ammount of current you can pull through it by using the 8 plug sockets AND the USB charging.

There must be a limit to the amount of high draw current devices you can attach to one wall outlet.

It will depend on the appliances in question. 4 fan heaters, 2 kettles, a curling iron and a hairdryer. That's gonna be too much.

But 1 phone, 2 sets of wireless headphones, 2 powerbanks, 1 TV, 1 Firestick and 1 Blu-ray player should be fine (edited)

I have 1 of those, no complains at all for the price, but at least in the one I have, the USB C that states to deliver 3A is actually only 2A (10w)

it's a shame as it's not enough for powering a Raspberry Pi so I had to use an extra dedicated charger for it

These things always put the sockets to close to one another. Yeah, fine for ordinary plugs (with the inherent risk that people overload the adapter with far too large a power pull). But not so good for power adapter 'bricks' that each only pull a very modest number of watts.

I like the fact it's got a "mounting hole" to make it useful in more settings

Can these be safely used abroad by adding a continental adapter, so I don't have to use multiple European adapters for each device?

The USB sockets might fail before it burns your house down

I'd been waiting on an Amazon voucher to get this as its sold and fulfilled by Amazon... I'd been wary about it's safety and I can't say any of this makes me feel better

Does anyone have anything good to say about it? (other than its price)

m8 if you're even thinking twice about it, don't do it. you think potentially setting fire to your house is worth saving a few quid? electricals are not something i'm going to skimp out on, ever.

    Doesn't look safe at all
  12. randomandy's avatar
Actually looking on Amazon there's a lot of 8 socket power strips from the recommended 'safer' brands for less than this if you don't want or need USB.

Assuming we're all agreed that Pro Elec and Masterplug are known for safer quality?

As others have said. I refuse to buy one of these from an unknown brand. Could burn the house down

First time I’ve seen 1.5mm2 called heavy duty but hey ho. For all those worried I’m not sure where you think your other cheap electronics come from. It’s UKCA marked whether legitimate or not.
Can’t hurt to pay the extra £5 for a brand if you want though.
