    Everyone has photo Id, it is required to open a bank, so it isn't a barrier to anything other than fraud.

    Your statement is completely untrue - I work in banking and we have a process to identify people who do not have photo ID. Some people don’t drive and don’t travel outside the country. Point to note, we do not accept the ID listed in the OP to open a bank account due to the limited security checks done to get one.

    Why would you have that if you have driving licence or passport, don't give your personal data to 3rd party company for nothing.

    CitizenCard are reputable. You are not giving personal data away for nothing to obtain valid ID. You should really note that it is a Not for Profit, registered charity, that has now provided over 2.5M cards, and is making ID more accessible, while still controlled, and supplements and filling gaps with Government bureaucracy and inefficiency.

    Many have boxed themselves into that particular box of tradition where it is only about driving license or passport ID. Before spreading misinformation which is common with this particular genuine ID option, I suggest you consider some facts:-

    * The 18+ CitizenCard should be accepted across the UK.
    * The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and the Home Office Security Industry Authority (SIA) logos on the front of the card confirm that it is valid ID.
    * The Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) hologram and UV mark on the card are endorsed by the UK and Scottish Governments.

    Other benefits are:-

    * Organisations and retailers also have an option if you present card, where they can check you are a legitimate cardholder at verify.citizencard.com and this complies with UK GDPR.
    * There is a QR code on the reverse of the card that can be quickly scanned.
    * A free CitizenCard Verify App can be downloaded to check your card is genuine in seconds.
    * Having recently updated my own driving license (at cost), and most know first the pain of obtaining passports, and the speed of the DVLA and Passport Office.... CitizenCard by comparison is simplicity and efficient.

    I take an alternative view of why would you not want a CitizenCard when its free? Why would something that provides a more efficient, no cost ID route that will help many across all parts of society not be welcome here?

    when folks have a passport ,driving licences these days they are all forms of identifications.

    I don’t understand why people aren’t going with this option, have been doing it for years. It’s free, cuts down on travel, poor weather and one less queue.

    Glad I have a passport that gives me an option to have a €35 passport card with it. I use that instead.

    I got this last time was a free deal post about 2-3 months ago. Customer service and speed was excellent. ID wise it does no harm. It's a useful reference or additional confirmation however choose to consider. It certainly looks professional and slick. There are also associated discounts with shops and insurance etc so a bit like your employer might have employee benefits.

    Was a no brainer for me. HOT!

    Got one last time they were giving them away, never used it and just sits in my wallet as a backup. Always just use my provisional drivers licence instead as is more commonly accepted.

    There was guidance from a parliamentary committee which mentioned DL and PP - just a guide.
    Many institutions stick to this because it's quick and easy . Also it passes the onus onto someone else of doing any checks. Of course alternative options are available .
