Potty.
Recommend by the Home Office, and endorsed by the National Police Chief's Council, what makes a better option for carrying around with you if you can't get a driver's license, a CitizenCard, or a Passport? (Hint: The correct answer is not your Passport).
Then there is the cost. A Passport will cost you at least £75.50 at time of comment, running for ten years. Fine if you plan on International travel, bit of a waste of you just want to prove your age. CitizenCard is normally £15 every three years (so a little over half the price of a Passport) - or free with this offer - but again, even if you want to travel abroad at some point, taking your Passport to prove your age on a night out is a foolish endeavour.
Frankly, taking your driving license or Passport for a night out isn't really the best option either. People lose their wallets/purses, not to mention the number of thieves operating in popular areas. What would be the least inconvenient to lose/have stolen? Once again, an accredited ID card is the best option in that scenario. (edited)
