Would avoid... purchased two sale watches from Fraser Hart, both were returned due to their condition.

Also you can buy used, like new condition for far less.

    A very different watch....

It's a nice watch but this is too close to Explorer money and styling for me - an iconic watch that'll hold its value and be far more serviceable. Grand Seikos such as this are about half their retail price in mint condition second hand and if I wanted that kind of depreciation I'd buy a car. Recent quality control issues aside I have big respect for Seiko (my SKX007J got me into watches) but I really don't find Spring Drive to be anything more than an elaborate quartz novelty. It is a Japanese businessman's watch and I respect that but these are less of a value proposition than they were five years ago.

    Usually 5k.

Man you'd be gutted if you just paid 5k and a week later it's 3.7k and you've just wasted 1300 quid, it's like buying a full price sofa on the friday before the DFS bank holiday sale that must end on monday

Grand Seiko are very well made watches with an argulably better finish and better accuracy than the likes of a typical Rolex.
The Grand Seiko marketing strategy is also very different from Rolex which is why new GS prices have barely moved in 10 years, and used prices aren't great, while Rolex restrict supply and inflate prices.

Watching the seconds not tick by on my spring drive is fantastic...

What! 3.7k and may show signs of wear!

    "It's possible"

Not sure I'd want to play the wear and tear lottery on an almost 4k watch

Great watch, wouldn't be my choice from Grand Seiko's line up, but the price is compelling.

Honestly who writes this stuff. It's so, so bad.

The great swindle of expensive watches. I bought a Breitling and Tag, both paid in full with Clubcard vouchers back in 2013. The Breitling was £1300. I looked in the window at Beaverbrooks last week and the equivalent watch was £5600. Pricey watches are a giant Ponzi scheme. And the thought of a £4k Seiko is just laughable. (edited)

No more laughable than £5600 on a Breitling (Breitling have used Seiko movements in the past) watches in general cost too much.

    Strap looks really cheap

It may well do if it were on one. That's a bracelet mate! (edited)

Lovely watch and I've considered one in the past but they do need servicing eventually and it costs an arm and leg plus Seiko only whereas Rolex etc you can find a decent watchmaker who can service them. I have to agree with whoever said they're better than a Rolex, I think they're beautifully made and much less "mass produced" than the average Rolex. Still like Rolex watches though.

Buy a Casio for 30 quids and would show you the time too

My spring drive gains about a second a week

One I have was about 1 second a month when not wearing constantly and bang on when constantly worn. Other is at +6 seconds since the clocks changed that's with intermittent wear also.

Best thing about it is that it's 'only' 40mm, unlike many hideous and hideously expensive watches.

Still wouldn't pay this much for it though.

How can they not be sure if it is ex display and on the fence about any wear and tear. Great price. Stupid blurb. I would want to look very carefully at that if the seller is unsure of anything.

Get the Casio Oceanus for £550ish. Amazing watch for the money. Looks the part plus has the same polishing as the Grand Seiko.

There are lots of models, which are you referring to?
  18. spatter's avatar
From what I understand they are not allowed to discount grand Seiko. So they take one out of the box and take a few photos of it and call it ex display to flog it.
    sufy123's avatar
Why are they not allowed to put a discount on it?
