Agreed with the above, usually decent pricing and performance, although typically with the 17" models, no mux, the GPU is on with no Optimus equivalent. I'm not sure if that's the case with this 16", but the 17" models also used to come with the full fat, full wattage GPU, undercutting the likes of MSI, Asus and Dell by a considerable margin for the performance, although CPU cooling was often not as good as the GPU!
I'm using a Lenovo right now but had a good experience with the 4 omens in the household we have owned so would go back in future if it was the best option at purchase again. (edited)

    O15 is 100w limited
    O16 is 115w limited
    O17 is 140w

Honestly the thing I hate most about omen laptops is the fact that they power limit their laptops and STILL overheat.

In comparison, my AW M15 r4 is thinner, weighs lesser, and still has a max wattage GPU and unlocked wattage CPU...

Anyway afaik the omen 16 models of 2022 do have Advanced Optimus (atleast they did in the 3070 and 3060 models), so that's not a problem anymore.

Build and aesthetic are great though, and that qhd display is wonderful to look at.

before you decide on the Ome do a quick check and see if they are still havig all the problems with the keyboard. I'm writing this o y 2021 Omen 15 ad as you ca see i' missing a few keys. (I have't corrected or edited the tet in this coment so you ca see the proble) Its very wide spread and HP are doing othing. (edited)

Well, 'missing' is not the same as 'intermittent' or should that be 'missig' / 'itermittet'

I warn you that these hp omen 16 may have the touchpad not working properly, on reddit and the hp forum is full of testimonies about it and hp seems not to be interested in fixing the problem.
After sending mine in for warranty repair it came back to me with the same defect and scratches that it did not have before.

The fix for this is to attach wire under the touchpad metal to a screw which will ground the touchpad and stop this issue.

Seems like this is full fat desktop grade gpu, not maxQ. Can draw full 150w!!!

You can find out the true wattage of the GPU in the Nvidia control panel.

HP Omen kit is usually good quality and good components. Heat added!

I have the 2022 17.3 inch 3070ti with the 12gen I7, I paid £1500 and I love it, I agree that the omens are good quality

On raw specs this seems to tick all the boxes: 16gb ram and 1tb ssd - perfect. Ryzen 7 fab. QHD display accompanied by a 3070Ti - good match. And all this sub £1000….

Just wary of the comments about overheating, keyboard and trackpad issues…. Are these the reasons for the ‘perfect’ spec at this price-point….?

You can order it and in case you encounter some of the problems mentioned send it back because it is defective.

Seems like good value for money, if the wattage isn't awful.

Isn't 4060 a better option in that price range? Might be a touch slower but with a lot lower power consumption.

In this range and pricepoint this seems by far could be a great deal. Any thoughts.

Anyone kind enough to advise how this Ryzen/3070ti compares to the previous Dell Intel/4060 deal. I ordered the Dell for similar price (Amex deal) but wonder if this HP is a better option hotukdeals.com/sha…545

This can draw 150w vs 4060
    maybe 50w?

What a deal. I am guessing this performs in line with a fat 3070 mobile but more efficiently.

So I've just ordered this for my Nephew.
The main complaint with this seems to be the fans constantly spinning-up and the laptop overheating. To lessen the impact of this, would it be better to play games on lower settings and perhaps stick to 1080p resolution. I know that kind defeats the point of having higher specs to some extent, but he's quite young and I don't think he'd mind the loss of visual fidelity if the fans were less annoying.

Also, if this is connected up to a bigger screen, with the laptop screen off/closed, is that likely to affect the thermals?
    Mikaiyel_Miah's avatar
    Mikaiyel_Miah
This is the main reason I bought the 17inch over the 16inch. Bigger chassis means better thermals.

My laptop stays cool even when everything is cranked up to the max. GPU floats around 55c and the CPU around 70- 75c

For those who have bought it, are you enjoying it? How is your touchpad? Do you also have the problem that after about an hour of use it stops being responsive?
