iFi Audio hip-dac for £79.20 with code APRIL20. Looks like this the lowest it has ever been!
Product Identifiers
Brand: iFi Audio
MPN: IF1650
UPC: 5055581886128
Model: hipdac2
iFi's hip-dac is the perfect companion for music lovers on the go.
Not only will its hi-res specs make your tunes sound fabulous, but its hot, on-trend styling will make them look pretty amazing too.
Smartly dressed in petrol blue with a touch of copper, the go-anywhere hip-dac was designed to slip discreetly into your pocket BUT its cool look might mean you want to keep it on display.
iFi's miniature DAC/headphone amplifier replaces the inferior DAC and amp in your smart device, PC or Mac. Simply connect the hip-dac via USB, insert headphones and away you go.
Relax with your favourite music streamer, Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal as the hip-dac delivers a sound brimming with bold dynamism and fluid refinement.
Whether you are curling up in Costa or on your commute, their hip-dac delivers hi-res music with flair.
Thanks to the Burr Brown chip, audio remains ‘bit-perfect’. Music, just as it should be.
The hip-dac supports hi-res PCM up to 384kHz as well as DSD256 and MQA as used by Tidal’s ‘Master’ tier.
Balanced audio circuits mean less unwanted noise.
The hip-dac boasts a balanced, analogue stage to bring you the best musicality for miles around.
It sports a 4.4mm balanced output for balanced headphone cables/connectors.
For those ‘hissy’ IEMs, use the 3.5mm S-Balanced. Enjoy all the benefits of balanced from your single-ended connection.
xBass – their iFi optional sonic adjustment is still very much in vogue and addresses the lack of bass that’s often apparent with in-ears or open back headphones.
Boost that bass, and “bring the booty back” to your iEMs with the hip-dac.
And with extensive battery life, you can take it out with you all day.
The hip-dac can join you at the gym first thing, take you out for lunch and keep your feet a tapping on your journey home.
hip-dac. Amazing sound. Stunning looks.

So how do I play from my iPhone through it?
You cannot hear "hi-fi" audio. It's like thinking you can see ultraviolet or infrared - you just can't. As a human, you're not built for it.
Any time you see advertising for nonsensical bit depths or sample rates, avoid and move on.

Yes most people can't tell the difference between hires and 320kbps audio, but that doesn't make this DAC "snake oil", it's still capable of converting up to the adverised bit depth and sampling rate.
But I suppose as I'm replying, I've bought into the aforementioned snake oil. (edited)
Has anyone got any experience with these and whether there would be much of an improvement Vs the Fiio Olympus 2 DAC that I currently use? I use loads of headphones, but the best quality ones I use regularly are a set of HD650s
The HD650s can benefit from a better amp than the Fiio though (assuming you are using it as an amp and not just a DAC), the next upgrade would be something with more power, like the JDS Atom.
Maybe worth shout and £20 cheaper
There's a noticeable difference between them with the Hip-Dac being worth the extra but the reason I got the Go was I found I was leaving the Hip-Dac at home and using n/c buds while commuting because of the extra size.
The Go has given a bit of new life to my wired Shures and if size and portability is paramount I'd definitely recommend that but if you tend to be out with a bag or big pockets, the Hip-dac at this price is a steal.
Listneing on Sennheiser 560s
I've been looking at getting an ifi zen dac but want to make sure I get the right thing. Doesn't need to be portable.
If it doesn't need to be portable though, I'd probably go for something else.
I've got a rubber holder deigned for an external battery which when strapped to my phone holds everything together neatly. It obviously add weight and bulk to your phone but the sound quality is excellent and if you've got decent earphones it's worth it. I use it with Shure 535's and it makes such a difference. It's pocketable but you need to be committed to your music to carry it everywhere.
A minor bug is the fact that the volume can't be locked so when you reach for your phone you have to be careful not to blow your ear drums. That said, I'd rather have the dial than +/- buttons.
I paid nearly £150 and never regretted it so at this price it deserves heat. (edited)
