Great price, i would say however anyone thinking of dipping their toes into coding (as this is aimed at) should think about what type of apps they're interested in creating. Java is better suited to some applications than others (e.g. it's used to create mobile apps amongst others.) So really, just think what you want to make first.

There are plenty of free programming books and tutorials scattered around the web.

If you are getting into programming, don't choose the language based on a free resource off HotUKDeals. You might not like Java. Explore JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.

You're not going to learn programming in 8 hours. People go to university for 3 years and still come out as entry level devs. You're not going to do in 8 hours of self learning what takes most people years even with teachers and structured learning.

The likes of ChatGPT will change all of that. Really don't know if that's a good thing or not, but when you consider that these things are in relative infancy yet can proficiently code....hurts my head thinking about the applications of this (no pun intended).

Spoiler - "8 hours" on the book title is really a joke.

    Java? Why Java?

It's widespread. It's a good beginner language to learn the basics of programming with strict rules before all the shortcuts in other languages. Because that is the language you'll be working with. Because Java programmers are in demand and can command a good wage. Plus more.

Of course it isn't right for everyone, but no one here is claiming that it is.
