The Classic I includes new innovation, featuring a thick-walled, heat resistant shell that locks in smoke and moisture at any temperature.

  • Divide & Conquer Flexible Cooking System transforms the humble grill grate into the most powerful cooking tool in your arsenal. The revolutionary multi-level, half-moon design frees you to cook different foods in different styles at different temperatures.
  • Control Tower Top Vent lets you control air flow for precise temperature control. Perfect for smoking from 107C all the way to searing at 400C.
  • With a slide-out drawer, cleanup is easy. Unlike other Kamado style grills, you no longer must remove the inside components from the grill to clean out the ashes. Simply remove the Patented Ash Drawer, dump your ashes and keep on grilling!
  • Built-in thermometer for precise temperature control.
  • Grill gripper, ash tool, and ceramic heat deflectors included.

Don't know whether to get one of these or a pellet smoker like the Pit Boss.

I have the Aldi version of this which is great and the traeger ironwood pellet smoker and much prefer the komado for flavour. The pellet grill is easier to use though but uses around the same weight of pellets compared to lump wood in the other grill

Why would you buy this over a pellet grill that is much more easy to control and thus produces better results?

Agree with all the comments. However I would argue once you understand how to use the KJ its easy to control the temp on longer smokes and as its more fuel efficient you can run longer cooks. I have done a 20hr brisket without needing more fuel, having used Traegers before there is no ways you could load enough pellets for that length without a top up. I wouldnt say that the results are better or worse (pellet/KJ) the both produce fantastic smoking options. That being said the styles of cooking are way greater on an egg as the temp range is 100c to 700c. A pellet cooker can get up to 450F/220c or marginally higher so limits the cooking styles eg pizza or to do high sear steaks. Appreciate it doesnt have wifi integration (which is awesome). If you are only going to be smoking and a bit of grilling a pellet is great, if you want more variety in styles an egg style is better.

Excellent egg for the money - this is the price I paid for a black one (yes they did black and red and still do black in some locations) back in 2012. Unit is still going strong. Only BBQ you will ever need

    Thanks
I have it, lying unpacked and contemplating if I need the classic 2 and if it's worth the extra
    What is your view

I would love one of these but I basically hit my boss grill Kamado for nothing which is a copy of this and most of the kj accessories fit it so can’t justify it. If mine was to break I would be getting a kj straight away though!

Is it worth paying the extra for something like this compared to a good Weber on sale?
    OktaneZA's avatar
A weber is a great bbq, but if you want to do long smokes or pizza the KJ is a way better device.
