Sure, they have terrible godawful appalling write speed, but if you're collecting OS installer / fix-granny's-computer / partition recovery utility sticks, this is the thing to get a whole bunch of.

Note that you don't need a USB stick for each ISO.  You can just use one stick, and use Ventoy.  Just slap your ISOs on the stick, and it boots from the ISO - you don't even need to extract them.  Just drop and run.  Or drop and install.  Or drop and repartition.  Very useful for different Windows OS's (eg, Win 10, Win 11, a copy of Win 8 for VMs, etc)

For £3 each its cheap , will do the job and you can nip out for some fresh air while the transfer happens or even go grocery shopping

These results are pretty much BS and people only every pay attention to the bigger numbers, expect the random write speed, from experience they max out at about 7-10MB/s (edited)

I no longer buy Kingston because there cheap for a reason. They're super slow and unreliable. SanDisk is much superior.

Anyone else found with these and other high capacity Kingston flash drives that the write speed fluctuates from zero to something like 10/15MB/s?
    Neostar's avatar
Yea it's almost like those super cheap USB flash drives from China

Bought a 256gb one of these. The write speed is absolute garbage. Avoid if you'll need to copy anything of any size in a hurry.

With the cost of SSDs now dropping, its more effective to buy a £33 1 TB SSD drive and a SATA to USB lead for ~£7. OK, so its not as convenient as a USB stick, but a damn sight faster.

These are my 'go to' drives for Windows installs.
Slow to write to, but installing windows from them is pretty switft.

    Ditto.

My choice of usb drives to have strewn about the house. At this price it's cheaper to lose these in places I look for them usually than to remember where I put them.

1p more than the previous deal I think?!

    Bought Two twin packs,very slow

If I buy two of these and then one single, do I win the duel?

Can only agree with the slow write speed, but got a few of these (actually the ones with the removable caps) and use them for music and movies plugged into hi-fi's and TVs. Good for my hotel travels where most of the TVs will play from usb.

Just don't use them for mission/time critical transfers 😁 Just set your transfers going and go have your dinner!

Can anyone recommend a good USB stick with reasonable write performance for a cheap price? I have a few high performance ones, but looking for something faster than this but not too expensive, as you can never have too many for backing up files from old computers etc (edited)
    chrisjlocke's avatar
As above ... why not use a 1 TB SSD for £35? Write speeds are better than the cheap USB sticks.

Thanks OP. Showing £10 for me now. Hopefully they will reduce again?

I have received fake San disc drives but never received a fake Kingston one.
