It's back! And slower than ever!

I actually use these drives for Windows builds, read times are pretty swift.
Very slow to write to, but if you just want to load a drive up with films/TV/music for on the go (or any other use where you're not having to write to it daily), they are ideal.

And recommendations of cheap alternatives that are reliable?

Do not get if your transferring anything larger than 4gb

Why just reformat it to exfat

I grabbed the 256GB version, and that is equally as slow. As above - fine for TV / Films on the go, but you need to start copying things the day before. I knew it wasn't great based on the reviews, but nothing quite prepares you for it when you're used to faster drives.

any info about the jailbreak next-gen version coming soon? Did my firmware update around 12 months ago and still waiting for new one

Oh goodie, this is on HUKD again.

Just to summarise: It is cheap, it is slow. Many, like me, don't care that it is slow. However many people in the comments are insistent that this is the end of the world. Just buy what works for you. (edited)

    Any good value alternative about?

    My needs:

    A) Install windows builds

    B) Image machines, so there's a backup available when it all goes 'bluetits up'. (Macurium Reflect).

In format machines. Install windows os, then take a backup image.

Just need cheap as chips drives for this. The imaging requires reasonable speeds.

    Cheers

Not a USB drive recommendation but I use a 128gb USB for the same purpose for testing systems.

I use Ventoy which provides a simple bootable menu interface for your USB to boot any ISO you drag and drop onto it. Most bootable ISO's will work.

I throw on Windows 10 and 11, gparted and memtest ISO's and highly recommend HBCD ISO (Hiren's Boot CD) ISO - a Windows PE build with loads of tools eg Macrium Reflect, AOMEI Partition Assistant, crystal diskmark/info, etc. Be careful to find the right website I can't remember what it is exactly now.

I bought 4 of them for:

    Windows 10 Installation
    Memtest86
    Slax Linux USB
    Acronis True Image Bootable USB

They are basically write once / infrequently. Write speed not an issue for me.

Pretty much as others have said... I have 4 of these.... Incredibly slow to write to. However, I am using them for a situation where they are only going to be written to once... Basically it's a backup of a backup... I'd certainly not buy this for using on a daily basis. Far too slow

Which ones would you recommend instead (cheap).

I get that they are cheap, which explains a lot, but does anyone know the likely culprit is that makes these so slow? I bought a couple for Linux live OS boots and I have had faster boot times in the past with USB 2.0 drives

This is my experience as well. My old 16gb Toshiba USB 2.0 sticks are faster read/write than these Kingston USB 3.1

any recommendations for a stick which has a high write speed and not so bothered about read speed?
I need two new ones for my DJ work, but exporting on rekordbox takes a literal age on most sticks. partly the software, but a high write speed does mitigate it abit
    dav31's avatar
not a stick but look up the crucial or sandisk 1tb portable ssd's they r quite small and do not require additional power source and have fast write speed.

If you are thinking of putting films, or photos on these to be seen on TV. Do not play on all TVs.
