Mine are plattized. Plattizing is another term for dropping in a cow pat and involves leaving on the top of a fence post, in field and it falling off. This process is what causes the dark brown colour visible on the pliers - and makes the tool easier to find in the dark.
Good of them to provide a blister pack - I normally make my own the old fashioned way.
Excellent tool - slices through fencing and barbed wire a treat. Better than fencing pliers for those without a lot of hand strength. Can grip two (even three) strands and twist them up together, no problem.
