Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa - Misty Blue
This Lenovo smart clock has a large 4” LED display so it's easy to read even when you're half asleep. Plus, the brightness adjusts automatically to help ease you out of bed on those early morning starts. With Amazon Alexa, you can set timers, check the weather or add items to your shopping list without lifting a finger. Just start your command with “Alexa” and away you go. Struggle getting up in the morning? Wake up to your favourite playlists or radio stations with the 3 W front-firing speaker. If only everything was that simple.
Features
- You can mute the mic, so it won't wake to your voice, plus there's no camera on-board for your peace of mind - Use it as an intercom system by adding extra smart clocks around the house– let the family know when dinner is ready - The soft fabric, modular design looks great on your bedside table
think this can be hacked to do a smart display for home assistant control
sipart
Hi. No this is not the model that can be hacked.
Essential (not hackable)
Smart Clock 2 (hackable)

Edit: Ignore the below, I was incorrect.
For those who may be interested and use home assistant this can be used to display your dashboard. Note I've not tried this but I might purchase and give it a go.
No it can't, the model from the Reddit thread has an LCD screen but this is the essential model

looks like the 4 button are : Vol + / - Alexa button and Alarm
I can't see any mute button like on regular echo devices to disable Alexa listening in.
Is this always listening ?
OpportunistMe
There is a switch behind, next to the powerplug to mute.

Got two of these for the kids a few weeks back. They love them. Alarms work well, set up routines and we like the auto-dim feature. Received the apple offers less than a week later. Sound is not top quality (compared to echo dot). Took me an age to connect them to WiFi (frequency issue). Switch on back to mute. They are tiny, but in an appealing way. For a smart alarm clock, I'd recommend.

Was £21.99 at start of the month, thought that was a bargain. Anyone buying this remove the sticker thats over the front its not noticable but stops alexa hearing you
paperdragon
Yeah I'm still struggling with IOT listening in to you. I certainly wouldn't want it in my bedroom.
I'm surprised everyone has taken in to it quite easily.

As long as this one doesn't have the same display problems as the Google one, it's a good price. Mine has become close to unusable after about 18 months now that majority of the display segments are faulty.
duncancosgrove
I'd assume the hardware is similar

Don't buy it for the apple TV pass. Still waiting for mine since christmas, contacted CS several times.

Some of you seem to be missing this:Features- You can mute the mic, so it won't wake to your voice. I have two of the Google versions, both around two years old, neither have any display problems,it appears to happen fairly regularly though. Maybe the Alexa version is different to the Google one apart from the obvious smart system installed.

I just don't trust Lenovo quality enough to buy something from them that should last for years.
Rich44
If it was the same quality as the laptops that's one thing but these are clearly built by someone else
Apollopayne
Decided to go with the xiaomi smart clock instead lol.

I bought one of these. Generally happy with it but thought I’d record a few quirks. 1. 2.4GHz only 2. You need to take the protective plastic off the screen as it covers the microphone 3. It appears twice as a device in the Alexa app and each one is used for different settings. You need to know this to switch from displaying Decibels to Humidity &Temperature 4. You can’t change the Wake Word. So if you’ve set your other devices to respond to “Echo” for instance, you can only use “Alexa” on this clock. 5. Sound is quite good considering some of the comments. 6. Clock arrives set to US time and Fahrenheit 7. Someone said it only plays Amazon Music but mine was quite happy playing Spotify. (edited)

Can it be modified to run home assistant?

Have they stop production of the google assistant version?
Anonymous User
Yep. They're stopping making this one as well.

I have 2 of these and thnk they are nice little clocks! First one got on promo about a year ago and second one brought at full price for my sons bedroom.

So you need to connect this to Alexa - but can you also use Spotify or Deezer?

If I buy this for my daughter can she listen to music on it without me buying a subscription for anything? We have amazon prime music and thats it?
Gbarrowman
Yes, but you can’t choose specific tracks without a subscription.
Alexa, play Taylor Swift (will play from Amazon Music by default)
or
Alexa, play Taylor Swift on…
then choose Amazon music or Spotify or Deezer if you’ve got these configured

I sent mine back last time the deal was on. Alexa. Nothing. Alexa nothing. Alexa then it would work. I plugged my old echo dot in next to it which responded every time. So back this went.
giltbrook
That was probably because you didn't remove the protective film from the screen. The microphone is behind the screen, and the protective film interferes with the microphone pick-up.

Spotify not compatible. My one now lues unused. Google it
fishz
Works fine for me.
Edited to add: It needed a couple of days after being set up before streaming radio stations, music etc. would work. Something to do with Alexa settings "in the cloud". (edited)

Have you considered buying a regular clock?
MrPresident
Does it show the temperature and humidity inside the house or outside?
fishz
Outside. I thought it would be indoors but I don't think it has any sensor for that.

Bought this when it was £21.99 the other week to replace my giving up the ghost Gear4 ipod dock alarm clock that was 30 pin so you can not longer connect an iPhone\iPod to it, was FM only radio and its now in a bedroom in our extension where the foil back insulation kills the radio signal so it was basically just showing the time which would quite quickly end up being a few mins fast quite quickly and then a pain to set correctly again so it was time to go.
We have a couple of Alexa's downstairs so handy little device to have upstairs. Time just stays correct and i've changed it from noise level readings to the outside weather which includes temp, humidity and a little forecast icon. I've had it playing radio as an alarm which was set just by asking Alexa and then using it to play radio much like any other Alexa. However our Echo Dots downstairs are connected to Apple Music and this device cannot do that so it will only play music from a basic free Amazon music account or presumably a full one if you have it. I'm fine with that as i'll just use it for Radio upstairs. Handily like the Alexa's downstairs it shouts out if someone has rung our Eufy doorbell which is handy.
In terms of the display we found the auto dimming set it too dark for us when the room was fully dark so i've just added a routine to Alexa that later on in the evening it turns it down to a certain brightness level and then in the morning sets it back to a bit brighter and that works fine.
For £20 its a handy little clock that i can use for Radio, has a bit of info on the screen, use as an alarm clock and i dont have to mess about setting the time on all the time.
Rebellion
Hi, can you give me some advice please? Currently the screen automatically goes off completely at 11pm overnight, I want to change this to 1am. Do you know how to set this up in the Alexa app/Routines? Also how do you set up a routine to change the brightness level at certain times? Thanks

I’ve had the Google one for 2 and half years. Been great til now the leds have started to go. For £19.99 can’t complain. Will pick this up to replace it

Found a big issue, can't change the wake word so sets alarm on all in 'listening range' 🤦
sparky29
Don't forget to take the film off the screen. It covers the mic and Alexa can't hear you
