Plan, plan, plan ! Start saving too. Attractions are super expensive. Boat trip, carriage ride, cruise around manhattan, two admissions to tge museum - 600 pounds.....to go to the top of skyscraper 100 pounds+ for 3.

It all depends what you want from the trip. If you want to do everything you need to remortgage, if general sightseeing is what you want to do then a pair of shoes (and subway ticket to get to financial district) is a must. Then a city pass gets you several attractions for around $100 each.

I went just after I lost my mother and went on a budget and loved it. Didn’t do carriage rides or broadway shows but that isn’t what I went for. I went to see the sights. Empire State Building, Rockerfella centre, Liberty Island, Ellis Island, 911 museum etc etc. And spent a lot of time viewing the sights, walking the bridges etc. I think there is something to do for most budgets. Most expensive part is travel and accommodation.

Does anyone know if Virgin ever have Airmiles sales? Not to buy miles but to use less miles for flights
    yipykayay's avatar

I've never known them to reduce the miles required for a flight

@GodDave I think you just missed it. They had a sale 20% off miles, but that finished on 27 April

We went in Feb 2019. Yes, it was cold but the kids enjoyed it a lot. We drove from New York to Niagra Falls (Canada side) and believe me it was a nice long drive. Niagara Falls in winter is one of the best times to visit because you'll be able to see partially frozen Niagara Falls and not many people around so hotels are way cheaper as compared to summer.
