I bought a Meaco dehumidifier a month back thinking it would be the best thing since sliced bread. Probably one of the less useful appliances we have. I bought one as the hygrometers in my place are often between 60-65%.

I don't want to be that guy that says 'open a window' but the dehumidification from external ventilation, assuming outdoor air is dry/cool enough to pull humidity from indoors, seems superior. And when the air out is too damp it just seems better to wait it out as the compressor gives off a considerable amount of heat.

But... maybe someone can tell me my purchase was worthwhile? So far I've found it's made no financial sense and my calculations have shown it would've been cheaper to run the heating longer in the winter and stick to tumble drying laundry, even years down the line, once the cost of the unit is factored in. I've had mine for around 3 years now and couldn't live without it. You simply can't naturally dry clothes indoor between October-April in a cold, rainy country without them getting a musty/damp smell.

It does take a few hours with this on and with clothes nicely spaced out on an airer, so I usually use two airers and press the "t-shirt" icon for clothes, which goes at maximum level until it senses it's around 35% humidity and shuts itself off.

Make sure the door is closed in whatever room you're using it in, and windows closed etc. so that you're creating a closed space for it to work in. I find it works much more quickly than having the radiators on, and I would bet it's more cost efficient, because it's actually tackling the task - condensing water from the air directly rather than trying to heat the air up to allow it to hold more water, with uneven results.

I don't think it's a financial decision to get one of these, much like a fan or an air con unit, it's more of a lifestyle decision.

I am not suggesting it’s not a deal, but for £10 more you can buy direct from the manufacturer.

The Meaco dehumidifier’s are bulletproof, and excel in what they do (suck water out the air).

Mine broke after a few months lol

I have had this model for a year and it's great. The low noise function is fine but not that much quieter in my opinion

Anybody used this company to buy from before? Any good / reputable etc?

Ordered another dehumidifier last Wednesday, showing in stock for next day delivery, which would be Friday as I ordered in the evening. No update on delivery, emailed them, auto reply “high volumes” 48 hour delay to reply. They replied late Tuesday to say oh it’s out of stock let me check about next delivery. I have since requested a cancel and refund as the site says mid-Oct and I have ordered elsewhere and received already.
I have had no reply since Tuesday evening. Cannot get through on the phone.
Looks like they cannot cope with the demand they have. From Trustpilot it seems if it goes well it’s fine, but if you have a problem then it’s a terrible customer service experience.

Not for Meaco products (and others), unfortunately.

    Trustpilot scores are good.

Question for any experts. Is it worth spending the extra £20 on this over the 10L version?

It’s going to be used while drying washing inside over the winter. No damp in the house. Average size 3 bed.

For drying washing it's fine. Just make sure you close the room door and you'll be fine.

The 10 or even 12 litres are impossible in UK - it's measured in humid Thailand at 30°C -like conditions. In UK, at 22° with humidity 60-70% it extracts a tank of water 2.4l during the day.
If you hang your washing in closed room the humidity will be 80% and it will fill up over night.

I have this model and house similar to yours.

I wish there were good deals on dessicant dehumidifiers. I have used both for years (but not meaco) and dessicant is by far and away better for extracting water when you are frugal with your central heating. They are a little greedier on the electric though.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are more efficient at low temperatures as opposed to refrigerant dehumidifiers, which are more efficient at warmer conditions. In terms of electric power consumption, refrigerant dehumidifiers are about twice more efficient (less thirsty).

meaco make good products but this one is not one of them - from my experience, buy a different model

had 3 of these 12l variant, all broke down with same fault c12 month period, the control panels become unresponsive to button presses, either wont turn on or off, cant set humidity levels, timers, buttons beep to acknowledge pressed but don't do anything, warranty is 2 years, 3 years from some places so check as worth having the longer one, CS was good although quite a few hoops/pictures/videos to send, although sent 1st one back unfixed even though had video evidence of the fault, amazon refunded, bought replacement and started with same issue again refunded, 3rd was fixed and then sold on.

Have a Meaco 20l one now and touch wood no issues so far, although a lot bigger and sounds like a jet taking off. I actually paid less for the 20l £130 than this one, although the 20l is currently £260 (edited)

As an additional data point, but absolutely not discounting your experiences! I've had this model for 18 months and it's worked flawlessly, hope it stays that way!

Got a 25L Meaco 2 years ago it's been used regularly and long warranty. Been faultless. Wouldn't buy from this site though.

I've not bought from them, so buyer beware! But as others have said they seem to check out on trustpilot.
