    9/10 review, tested at £160 avforums.com/rev…72/
Please note: these are passive speakers & would need an external amplifier to work.

Also available for £49 delivered from the same seller on Amazon (in case these run out) amazon.co.uk/dp/…JW7

Not again btw! Where did they dig out yet more from after the previous deal expired?!
Here's the previous deal to read comments, most questions answered there hotukdeals.com/dea…231

May be worth a read before one buys an amp - Matching amps & speakers the-home-cinema-guide.com/mat…tml, read the 10 summary points at the bottom if you lack time.

I'll include some of the amps suggested in the previous thread - most can be sourced from the Far East for less. Plus cheaper, more basic ones are also widely available...

How do these compare to the 100 variant that's also on offer at the mo? Are they worth the extra? (edited)

According to expert reviews Monitor Audio Monitor 100 3G has a better sound separation than Monitor 50. Monitor 50 can't deliver decent sound when there are a lot of things going on at the same time.

After a few days running in, gently use an Allen key to tighten the bass unit screws, it makes a huge improvement to the sound.

I've just received these. I'll test against my Spektor 2. I'm not expecting a competition, just curious on the sound signatures. These will be used as rears anyway in a 5.1 but for those who will use as a 2.0/2.1, I'll provide some layman feedback

In an office set up I quickly swapped out my Tablette 8 Reference Signatures for these and they weren’t at all bad.

Well after testing, here's my thoughts

Bass - Non existent. It's a tiny woofer in a tiny enclosure, don't expect anything even nearfield. It doesn't bother me as I've a sub. Compared to the Dali Spektor 2s, they just have no presence at the low end. I'd actually say a subwoofer was mandatory.

Mids - Probably where this excels. Mids sound so full and pleasant. Voices are clear without being shrill or dull. I was listening to The Boss; Born in the USA, vocals have all that attack you'd want. Absurd performance for the price. I'd say the midrange performance is almost on parity with the Spektor 2s.

Highs - Highs in of themselves sound great. Monitor tend to much brighter speakers, I'd say they were brighter than my Spektor 2s. Not a positive or negative, a matter of taste.
I think the Spektor 2s deliver a considerably better performance (they don't sound as boxy in highs as these; particularly evidenced when you listen to cymbals on both, the Spektors just sounded much more spacious with the reverb), but still just astounding for the price.

Like I can't imagine buying a better £40 speaker. You'd have to step up 5* the price to get a noticeable difference. More than happy and as surrounds, they're perfect.

Also - kudos for the port plugs and plug caps included. That's very generous. Build is also impeccable. Unbelievably solid which you don't always get at even 10* the price.

You really DO need to break these in for bass to develop. Running them in on an Arcam AVR850 receiver & they're pretty damn good! Well worth £41.

Had a rummage around inside mine to spray Deoxit contact cleaner on spade connectors, the crossover components seem really good quality. These MA50's will deffo sound more open & less boxy after a few days running in & used as a bookshelf speaker/soundbar alternative sat close to a wall, the lack of deep bass is a real plus, wheras MA100's would sound boomy as hell.

Ooh! I got them on the previous deal, arriving tomorrow. Going to hook them up to an Aiyima T9 Pro. Very limited space so hopefully they'll do the job!

It took me a while to decide whether to go for 50 or 100, but given the space available the 50 works better. It's interesting that they're meant to come with baffles for the rear ports, my current bookshelf speakers are backed on to a wall but their ports are forward facing.

I'm running my current speakers off a Rotel amp that I managed to get cheap from a charity shop, although the volume control could do with some contact cleaner it works well considering it's age. I'm only replacing the current speakers because the cone has degraded and torn. To be fair they've survived more than twenty years and several house moves so I can't complain. Hopefully these keep me going for the next twenty years!

Are these any good to be used as the side speakers in a 7.1?

It depends on your AV amp. I ordered two Monitor Audio Monitor 100 Bookshelf speakers to use as surround speakers.

Had them for few days now. Definitely worth £40! They sound really well with ancient Sonos Zp100.
Bass is really good for the size of the speaker.
Looks like MA engineers put a lot of effort to build a cheap speaker that doesn't disappoint.

The cabinets are acoustically quite lively & not particularly well-damped, either thicker cabinet walls or more internal acoustic wadding would've helped. Still sound better than most tiny speakers.

Not sure if anyone will get a ping for an expired post, but can anyone recommend a small sub to go with these?

Peter Tyson have the MRW-10 from the same series at £189 which I'm sure is a great price... but still pricey!

To go with an Aiyama T9 Pro.

    Thanks!
