could be locked to network you purchase on...
- LOH1153

Except for iPhones (which locks to the first SIM inserted) and some Blackberries (some Blackberries are SIM free and some are not depending on model) and Network Branded phones, phones at Phones4U (like Carphone Warehouse) are NEVER locked. The phones are purchased directly from the manufacturer SIM free. They make their margin from the networks.
- tpol

EDIT:

Just to add, when I tried to buy this from the Phones4U, instore, the guy tried all my various different network SIMs for the same handset. Also, except iPhones, no other phone locks to the first SIM inserted. iPhone does by using Apple's servers; no other manufacturer uses their servers to activate and keep lock status of the phone in the same way as Apple. Nokia sometimes does use an activation process by connecting to it's servers but it is nowhere near as sophisticated as Apple's process.

The price is £129.99 btw not £134.95. I think they changed the price at last minute to compete with o2 who are selling it for £129.99.

what is the full spec?

Great specs for the price TBH.

gsmarena.com/mot…php

Wife has a RAZR i and absolutely loves it.

Seems brilliant value if leaked specs are correct. I would have recommended this as the perfect phone for my m8 if it wasn't for the 1 gb of ram.

It's going to get KitKat so the RAM shouldn't be a problem at all..

wow! why so cheap? what's the catch?

Google really are throwing down the Android gauntlet aren't they? This is going to be as difficult to get hold of as Nexus 4 on launch imo. There's nothing from a mainstream manufacturer that comes close to these specs for the price.

Two years 50 GB storage free on Google Drive..... add to that Google Play.....

Who needs an sd slot if you have a good data plan, if you don't then not the phone for you, hasn't stopped others like the Nexus phones or iPhones from selling.

Tempted to sale my nexus 4 to get one of these as the 4's too similar to my nexus 5 looks wise....:p

Yeh the 4 is a backup on another network....

agreed on the storage, not sure i'd rush out and sell your nexus 4 to get this though, would be at best a sideways step but more than likely a slight step back, the camera for one is worse and it comes with android 4.3 and the N4 should get 4.4 very shortly.

my wife is using an S2 and looking for a new sim free phone, reckon this is a good bet?

Soooooo close to being perfect. It is a fantastic phone for the money if you don't need lots of storage, but it's not for me unfortunately. I can wait until there is something like this but *with* expandable storage.

depends what she needs it for, its not got an SD card slot, which isnt really an issue unless she uses it to store lots of music or anything like that, the camera isn't exactly ground breaking, but decent processor, 1GB ram and decent screen make this probably the best around anywhere near this price.

Nope

Nope

Damn, seemed like the perfect budget smart phone, if only it had a micro SD slot, stick a 64GB and you're sorted.

How does this look compared to the nexus 4?

Wow was just about to order a Y300 to tide me over until the ZTE Blade V came back in stock.
I put Motorola on my never buy from them again list when they refused to offer a Android update to the DEXT in the UK, but released it elsewhere.
Fingers crossed now that google have a say it won't happen.
For £120 it blows all competition out of the window spec wise.

rpope

Who needs an sd slot if you have a good data plan

Well, I suppose it all depends on whether you are happy for NSA and GDHQ to have access to your stuff and to see what you are doing. Not to mention whatever Google use your data for themselves (marketing, consumer analysis etc)

4G?

The Moto G is 3G-only, with no support for 4G LTE

Slightly worse spec all round and half the ram.
Still considering the Nexus 4 never dropped below about £170 new what would you expect from something for about 2/3 the price.

I won't add music and probably won't take many photos, most I'll do is play a few games and get a couple off apps like whatsapp etc, will 8gb be enough for that?

Also will this be able to run games like GTA III and Vice city?

You'd probably be better off going with the 16GB. Games like GTA take up a lot of space.
My brother's HTC One Mini plays Vice City smoothly and it has virtually identical specs to this (same processor, RAM, screen res etc) so it should be able to handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Yes on first

and Yes on Second

Does this have DC-HSPA at least if not LTE?
