The first one does too but it's a lot more subtle how it all ties in.
Outside of many improvements, the think i appreciated about this over the others is that there are sidequests that pair up characters, so they acknowledge each other face to face rather than the little static traveller interaction blurbs.
Overall, i'd recommend it far above the first, which really felt like a 2.5D prototype model in comparison. (edited)
