not working

Beta:

The free download is available on a first-come first-served basis from its website with 1m downloads available.

https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

To install the free software users will have to sign up using Apple’s site, as well as have a Mac computer with OS X Mavericks 10.9 installed with at least 2GB of memory and 8GB of free disk space. (Although I'm sure the Mavericks requirement will be overcome with a little work).

It's not the beta, it's the final release.

Yes, it's not yet available. The get deal link did go to the info page on apple.com but it's redirecting to the store instead for some reason.

Say's it is still not yet available in UK. 7:45pm 16-Oct-2014

I've been using the beta the last few months. I forget I'm even using it.

i tried the Beta in a VM, and some of the functionality didn't work for me.

I'll update my Mac itself at some point when it alerts me.

The store is where you'll download it from when it's available.

I meant that it is redirecting to the apple online store (via a HUKD referral link presumably).

The integration with iOS 8.1 is fantastic. I've been on Yosemite and iOS a while and no other platform comes close. This is the real power of Apple. Yer pays yer money...or not in this case, yer takes yer pick.

This is what consumer oriented computing is all about, not tech specs.

You running it on a wintel too?

Think I'll wait until at least the first 3 fix updates have been released

I'll wait all weekend if I have to.

No. That's illegal.

Your Mac won't alert you for this ad it's not an update but rather a new 'product' as Apple see it.

Under what law exactly?

I love the fact that people vote this cold because it has something to do with Apple.

I'm an Apple user, but you won't find me searching out Microsoft or Android deals and voting cold to gain some measly sense of satisfaction.

Get a life!

Yes; I think the've finally got there with the integration between OS X and iOS.

Apple os has always been free, so how is this a deal?

I would almost have a mac if they could play games, but i cant justify £1000 to check facebook and pretend to be a DJ.

It's brilliant for Instagram too. Take the plunge, don't be afraid.

Mavericks, released this time last year, was the first time the update was free.

Is this permanently free or will they start charging after a while?

Oh Apple users, I hope you enjoy this "free" download.

Around £700 if you purchase via their EDU store

Forgot to say thanks OP!
Was actually debating whether or not to download the beta version yesterday! I'll just download the final version now :)...though I don't see any changes except for the flatter icons! I don't have an iPhone so the phone integration apps are pointless for me!

YouMuppet

One off download, then you can keep it forever!

We will. Cheers!

If you have more than one Mac, cancel the update when it first appears and copy it to an external drive to use on other Macs, it auto deletes it after you run it.

The fact you would be breaking a EULA states it mustn't be installed on anything other than Apple hardware.

It was only free from a certain point. The past have been a small fee.
