About games:

Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness

Hordes of nightmarish creatures stalk forth from the lair of Mondain the Wizard to devastate the tranquil kingdoms of Sosaria. The nobles spend their time in useless bickering, doing nothing to stop the destruction.

Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress

After years in hiding, Minax, apprentice of Mondain, has come of age and now she’s threatening Earth. In her fury, she’s torn the fabric of time and space, opening doors you can use to bring about her doom.

Ultima III: Exodus

Finally, after years of peace in Sosaria, fragments of a manuscript hint at an unholy alliance between Mondain and Minax.

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar

Welcome to Britannia, a world at peace. Lord British has proclaimed the Quest of the Avatar, the search for a true spiritual example for all to follow.

Ultima V: Warriors Of Destiny

Summoned to Britannia once again, you’ll need all of your newfound Avatar powers to face your greatest threat yet. The world is now ruled by the tyrant Lord Blackthorn after Lord British was lost on an adventure in the Underworld.

Ultima VI: The False Prophet

The tranquility of Britannia is once again shattered, this time by strange creatures called Gargoyles.

Ultima VII: The Complete Edition

Two hundred years have passed since your last visit to Britannia, and much has changed since then. An unknown being who calls himself the Guardian has appeared and is forcing everyone to obey him. In addition, magic doesn’t work as it should. It seems that all mages have gone insane, and quiet towns are being terrorized with ritualized murders. It’s unclear what’s happening, but initial signs point to some kind of organization called the Fellowship. It is up to you to unravel the mystery and find out what is really going on in Britannia.

Ultima VIII Gold Edition

The Guardian has tricked you, Avatar. After you claimed victory in your last battle, he banished you to Pagan, a world under his control. Once it was a beautiful land, but ever since the ancient battle between the Elemental Titans and the evil "Destroyer", it is engulfed in eternal twilight. Titans — now worshiped as gods — are cruel and uncaring. They bestow power on their most dedicated followers who, in turn, terrorize Pagan's population. To find a way back home, you must join the ranks of the Titans before the Guardian succeeds in his plot to conquer Britannia — and then Earth itself.

Ultima IX: Ascension

Prepare to embark on your final adventure in one of the greatest RPG sagas of all time. As the heroic Avatar, only you can save Lord British and his people from the evil Guardian who has devastated and corrupted the land. Valiant combat, magical prowess, and knowledge of the Eight Virtues are your weapons against evil. Ultima IX: Ascension is a combination of epic storytelling, solid mechanics, and a beloved world. Experience this classic RPG for yourself and ascend to the realm of myth and legend in the final single-player Ultima game.

Ultima Underworld 1

You are the Avatar, the most noble of heroes. In your day, you have beheld many wonders and proved yourself master of many dungeons. But nothing in your experience prepared you for this: the terror-filled passages of Britannia’s underworld.

Ultima Underworld 2

You are the Avatar, the most noble of heroes. In your day, you have beheld many wonders and proved yourself master of many dungeons. But nothing in your experience prepared you for this: the terror-filled passages of Britannia’s underworld.

Most of them are best left to nostalgia or watching play-throughs so someone else can endure the frustrations IMO, though I wouldn’t mind giving Ascension another go as I never got far with it and despite it being buggy it would be good to give another go; they made it at least a decade too early. I did Ultima 8 to death and just couldn’t get on with 7 enough. The Underworld games are still alright though if you can tolerate the pace and such (edited)

I fully agree, still have the box and all the floppy disks, whereas just about every other game I had around then has bit the dust long ago

I was so hyped for Ascension, it arrived and ran terribly on anything apart from a voodoo card. But I managed to finish it and enjoyed it despite the nonsensical plot.

I also really enjoyed IX back in the day as my first and so far only entry into the franchise. The ending was complete garbage though, and had I actually been a lifelong fan of the series I'd have probably never forgiven them for it.

Each entry for literal pennies sounds like a good buy to me, but I'd want them on my steam deck as they look like a nice fit given their age.

You can't buy Steam versions, only GOG and EA. You can install EA App on Steam Deck to play, there is a lot of tutorials on yt. (edited)
