The Planet X cooking system is on offer again, with both the 1400 and 900 variants at £20, or the 750 with coffee press for a penny less. So choose the right size for your needs.
This is a clone of a more well known more expensive brand, many video reviews seem to think well of this or the predecessor that was branded Jobsworth.

always tempted by these but really dont understand why they dont have the ability to lock the cup onto the stove given there are slots for it.

I've got the 900 version. The cup does lock onto the stove, despite them only showing photos in the listing of it resting on the pot rest. I'd assume the others are the same?

Google “EN417 canisters” for anyone looking

Slightly smaller one 750ml with a Cafetiere press included, which can be left at home if not used. I've had it for about 3 years for the brew kit in the car, an excellent addition, tempted to get the larger one for when heating water for more than 2.

The images don't show it but the cup locks in place on the burner, similar to Jet boil. The extra bit allows you to use different pans.

Oh! I just spent ages trying to figure out how to get that extra bit on.  It's only now that I realised you need to turn the feet anticlockwise so now that they will slot onto the burner.

Referred to it in my description, but that price is for just 4 more days. Smaller, has a coffee press accessory. Could be perfect for some.

Sorry if this is obvious, newbie to camping, but are you able to cook in this? Or is it just for boiling water? Thanks
    thelimopit's avatar
    It will do both.

Didn't some Planet X sets get recalled fairly recently?
    Neilatrix's avatar
Do you know why, tested mine and the insulation sleeve set on fire, so have cut the insulation sleeve down. Still need to test again

Worth every penny. Boiling water in few minutes. Just don’t leave gas cartridge inside in cup. Will create rust inside
  9. rupert-hd's avatar
Will this take the c500 gas canisters?
    mattd555's avatar
it will take them yes, but you won't be able to store it inside the cooker when not in use

To answer my own question, seems using a gas adapter seems the cheapest way:

    • 1600kW power output - that's one more like a flame thrower
    • I assume they mean 1600w.

Love PX, probably spent close to 3 grand at this point and not a single issue

I've got the 1400 one of these and can heartily recommend it. Daft for the price. works really well. fits the same canisters as other well known brands.

Was looking at these the other day for a bit of wild camping with me and the boy this summer and also making a brew on the beach. Might have to push the button on it now!

Incidentally does anyone know the cheapest place to get the gas canisters for them?
  21. SnazzyJazz's avatar
    Thank you OP!

My camping buddy has the posh version of this - we'll compare!

I got one a couple of years ago. It melted on first use, planet x were very good with customer service.

Planet x can be very hot and miss to be honest.

Does anyone know if I can store a c100 Coleman canister inside this ?
    mattd555's avatar
    if that means 100g, yes

Ordered one with the code and it worked, thank you!

Do you drink from the cup the water boils in or do you carry another cup?
    David_Miller2Et's avatar

The 900 and 750 both have a 'drink through' lid and a mug style handle, I imagine you have to ensure your lips don't touch the metal to avoid burns.

Is the 1400ml one a lot bulkier than the 900ml. Wondering which one to get for bike packing trips with me and one other person
    P01N7's avatar
Not massively. It’s a little wider and at a guess a similar height, doesn’t seem taller which would make sense to keep centre of gravity low. 1400 would fit in a dry bag bar roll but might be tight in a saddle bag.
