As an alternative one can buy a 512GB SSD (Samsung 980 was and maybe still is 24 quid on Amazon) and a 10Gbps NVMe USB enclosure for 20 quid or less - resulting in a cheaper and faster USB drive. (edited)

Exactly what I did just the other day, I was copying over files from my partner's old laptop to the drive and getting approx 280MBs sustained and it's only on a basic caddy, old laptop is usb 2/3 only as well.

Far far better than these drives!

A lot of once high-end tech needs to be taken behind the barn and ...

I guess this counts as a 'bargain' if the write speed is correct. In so far as once this may have cost the Earth. But unlike a once high end phone, that still has some wonderful specs years later, components rarely age well. Amazon had this memory capacity in an SSD for 13 quid Prime Day. 5 quid for an external enclosure. In high-tech, the march of progress never stops. But too many punters buy on long ingrained habit- understandably not everyone keeps up-to-date with changes- or indeed would have the confidence to 'assemble' an SSD and enclosure.

So IRL, if you can spread the word, do so. Let your friends, relatives and acquaintances hear how cheap and easy SSD storage is to use.

Poor deal! I'd want at least usb 3.1 or an ssd for that price. Pny isn't that great either. Wh Smith, is not exactly known for tech or bargains for that matter!
