Thinking of getting the 10m one to route up and down through my garage ceiling to use with my circular saw and mitre saw, as there is only one mains plug socket at the other end of the garage. Looking for advice if that would be ok. I use a 5 meter extension lead draped across the floor at he moment for occassional use of those power tools, usually to run one of them in conjunction with a vacuum for dust extraction. Been ok so far but concerned about long term safety issues. ANY advice much appreciated

If you're concerned about long term safety issues it might be better just getting more wall sockets installed by a qualified electrician.

John McGrath made a decent video about the dangers of using extension leads in a workshop here (skip to 10:36).

Purchased - thanks for the heads up on this deal
Always use your extension leads with caution - do not overload or daisy chain them.

Can you open the socket piece or is it molded/glued? I have a long piece of cable and am planning to just use both ends.

    Edit:
On a second thought... No thanks , saw the photos on the reviews rated 13 amp, but construction inside is flimsy. No good contact makes this overheat. (edited)

I would stay away from pro-elec. I've had a couple of their leads and whilst I have never had any blow or burn out, I have found the quality of the sockets poor. One of them the socket became stiff and unusable and the other was loose and not moulded correctly.

I was about to buy as it's a great price, but I'd advise you to look at the picture reviews. Scary that they are all about faults that could lead to a fire hazard.

Can you run a hair dryer off this?

I know people say hairdryers need to be plugged into the main... our nearest socket is too far.
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
You need to look at the wattage of the hairdryer.

    220V (safe calculation voltage) x 13Amps = 2860 Watts Max

So the max wattage for everything plugged in is 2860 Watts combined. If your hairdryer is less than that it should be fine to be plugged in on its own. Maybe with other stuff but it determined by your hairdryers wattage. (edited)
