Just to note, you need to be licensed to transmit with one of these. There's a free exam course here: essexham.co.uk/

Just picked up one for £14.62 "Cutest living" store. No cable though. But I already had one. (edited)

Strangely the Quansheng uv-k5 (8) I got from Cutesliving had battery already in the handset and charge showing 3 bars! Being of suspicious mind I wondered if it was a customer return or what. Anyway I paid £10 odd, delivery was very quick and am otherwise happy with the purchase. I did get in touch with customer service via chat but they claim that they don't sell secondhand and are not allowed to sell customer returns. Anyway, any recommendations where to buy suitable cable and decent antenna because I have read that there are so many fakes around.

All I want to do is listen in... Not disturb anyone... Do I still need to get a license???

Nope. But a similar baofeng radio was the gateway to me getting my amateur licence which I’ve really enjoyed. If you’re interested in radio, it’s pretty straightforward to get the foundation license. Essex Ham and OARC both run courses online.
