Good on repelling water but very poor visibility at night when street lights are on.
Also, forms a thin layer which reflects the lights when any opposite vehicle comes your way on 2 way road and it is dangerous.
Once applied it is very hard to remove. Almost impossible..acetone helps, but what a pain.. So think twice before applying. I would never do it again on cars windscreen. Only using it on shower doors.

If you wanna proper water repellent stuff, look only for Ultra Glaco. (edited)

Glaco is amazing. So easy to put on and you can't even tell it's on your screen. It lasts ages too, I only put it on every 3 months.

I used to use Rain-X years ago but got bored of the poor visibility in the rain and constantly having to reapply. I switched to something called Gtechnic but that was really expensive although it did stop frost on the windows.

I don't think you can go wrong with Glaco.

I really like rain x but do prefer the cleaner + repellent. All the complaints about it are when it is incorrectly applied or maintained. I've used rainx for 20 years but it's not suitable for all situations, if you don't get above 40mph much then don't use it. If you do lots of distance driving, you'll hardly use your wipers.

You saying that everyone complaining about this stuff can't be putting it on right, is rather presumptuous.
I've used Rain-X following the instructions.
It's awful and leaves a horrible smear that's difficult to remove.

Just don't use it is my advice.

I don't like how window looks after using this kind of products when it's raining.

Smeary and dangerous, especially with full beam headlights coming towards you. (edited)

Don't put this stuff on your windscreen.
I've regretted it ever since and it's so difficult to remove

If you're having difficulty removing it with a glass cleaner, try a glass polish (abrasive) and it'll come off no problem. Clean up after with IPA or fairy liquid, but make sure you really rinse if using the latter.

Claybar the glass first, wipe with isopropyl alcohol, apply then rinse off with a hose. Buffing smears the product.

    Excellent product if applied correctly.

Again i am one of these who have used this product for many years on numerous vehicles without issues.

As for smearing issues that can and is caused by numerous issues which i ain’t getting into cause others will disagree.

Application is key to this product working fully.

Obviously other more expensive products are available but at price point the rainX is a good entry level product.

I know others will totally disagree but such is life 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I've used this for years, and it does NOT smear the windscreen.
If anyone's experienced smears, then either the windscreen wasn't spotlessly cleaned before applying the RainX, or it wasn't properly polished off afterwards.

Been using Rain-X since the mid '80's and never had a problem, but then I do follow the instructions.

Great stuff this. You must clean and dry your windscreen thoroughly before application.

Any good for a shower door?
    Rimi's avatar
    Perfect for that.

    Greasy horrible stuff, cold.

All the negative comments people must be cleaning the inside of their windscreens at least every week to notice something on the outside! :/

I use it on my GoPro underwater dome for the perfect above and below surface shots.
Do not put it on your car's windscreen or rear window (if you have a rear wiper) as it will cause the water to bead into millions of little droplets and seriously affect your view.
I'm sure the state of your wipers is a factor that exacerbates the issue.
It's fine and quite helpful on the side windows and mirrors etc. (edited)

If applied properly it does wonders as works as per advertised.

If not applied properly and rushed the drying process it'll smear, which I have also done many times... It also should be done on a dry day.

I also found using newspaper helps with cleaning and polishing (I think it was the graphite in the newspaper help with the polish.)

I don't use it much anymore as it comes off after 1-2 car washes.

It is good for phone screens though. Keeps them smudge free.

You need a oleophobic coating liquid.

This stuff is great, until it rains, then it washes straight off
    jammy86's avatar
    Ehh what?

I’ve been using this stuff since I started driving 10 years ago and it’s amazing. Read the instructions on the bottle or watch a video of how it should be applied properly. Poor application results in smears and poor performance

Use soft 99 product called Glaco. Much better than Rainex. Available on amazon as a set with compound. You won't regret it.
  19. BonkGTO's avatar
Would rather use Soft 99’s Glaco instead of this. Even better option is GTechniq G4 + G1. Applied the coating on my windscreen back in June 2022 and it’s still going to this day.

    This GTechniq ?
