its an Asian thing, used daily in curry dishes and even used for wash/clean meat/fish products,
as well as used as a natural disinfectant, it boosts immunity too! (edited)

But £1.50 a kg is a real bargain given that 100g sells at 99p!

First draft statement on the potential risk to human health of turmeric and curcumin

    Last updated: 17 October 2022

A known safety issue with curcumin and/or turmeric is contamination. Contamination with heavy metals for example is a result of either turmeric grown on contaminated soil or intentional adulteration with, for example, lead chromate. Often lead (Pb) chromate, a Pb-based colour, is used to enhance the appearance of turmeric. Other yellow chromate compounds such as zinc, sodium, potassium or strontium chromate could also be used as adulterants. As a result, raw or ground turmeric could potentially contain high levels of Pb or other metals.

Typical adultarants are Lead Chromate, Metanil (yellow dye) and Chalk

Asda seem to have stopped Rajah and replaced with Indus brand. This could be old warehouse stock with short bbe.

Yes when they discontinue a product it goes on insane offers. But BBE is 10/2024 so worth the stock up for the price (edited)

What do you do with this amount of turmeric, run an Indian restaurant?

Asians use it often in our dishes and it doesn't get out of date for a long long time

Might get this and use it in smoothies. Always used the fresh stuff but a bit of a pain to buy, wash store it etc for use in smoothies.

Thanks for posting. I found 1kg paprika today for £1.50. However, the mild madras currys powder was still full price, so I will keep my eye out to see if that gets reduced

Went there this morning (Sunday). Paprika 1kg Rajah was £5 as every 1kg spices on that aisle. :/
