For most I'm imagine it's more practical (and cheaper) to just print the QR code and have it somewhere handy for visitors to scan

It's exactly the same difference. And some folks especially wouldn't know how to interact with a QR code. But have learnt to type in order to enter a password for WiFi. (edited)

Brilliant, no need to ask for the password, fumble with grubby bits of paper, or hope you can remember what the password was changed to.
There are several variations of this sign from the same seller at the same price, £3.99 (not reduced).

Or you could just go into the router settings and change it to something you'll never forget 🤷

No. Its an inanimate PVC sign with no electronics in it. It might run chrome.
