The display is a basic HD TN panel, not mentioned in the spec, if you wanted a full HD IPS, you may be disappointed. HP type is 6MS34ES#ABU and PartSurfer confirms PNL,13.3 HD AG SVA 45% 220n eDP NB,AUO.

As below, not the worst TN panel ever, contrast is not bad and neither is colour when viewed head on.

Lid and palmrest are metal and feel quite premium (but not as thick or durable as EliteBooks).

Keyboard is ok - not backlit.

RAM seems to be 1x8GB running at 2400 (stick is rated for 2666), with one spare slot.

Not sure if you were just being funny but of course it has USB ports. The specsheet is incomplete.

No-one should use Windows 11- ever. It is a broken (the most recent AAA game crashes on this OS), downgraded, and very troubling version of Windows. It is also a flop, like many versions of Windows before. Stick to Windows 10, and MS will give up and be forced to release a true fully functional successor.

As for the lappy- well the second hand market certainly provides great choices around the 120ish price point, and that's fine for anyone who needs a sensible 'homework' system.

Thanks for telling me this info, I was really hoping this laptop would play AAA games at max settings without crashing.

Bought one to sample the other day. Didn’t post it as wasn’t sure how it would go down, mostly on account of the i3 being dual-core only.

ProBook 430 chassis is fairly nice, I think you get a metal lid (might be plastic), I don’t think the palmrest is metal until G7/8. Equal to Dell Latitude 3000 series (value business range).

EDIT - came back to say I got this wrong - the lid is metal and so is the palmrest, which is quite nice, it's modelled after the 800 series G5/6 laptops, the keyboard is not as precise as the Elitebooks and not backlit. The display is HD TN so pretty weak but it's not got terrible contrast or colour; viewing angles and resolution aren't much. (edited)

Would this be any good for my 8 year old to play crappy games on?
    russelkhan's avatar
That depends on how crappy the games are. I've seen my nephew play some awful browser-based games and this should handle them fine. But I do think a cheap tablet might be a better option for an 8 year old.

With these refurbished older models you have to put things into perspective. Its cheap, nice size and will do the basics pretty well. Would stick with Win 10 even if upgradable. B grade is usually pretty good with Itzoo. Some info here on model range laptopmedia.com/ser…g6/ (edited)

it can be as cheap as you want....this is a 2017 8th gen i3 processor....no deal to me....they're obviously trying to get rid of them. I wouldn't even take one for £70. (edited)

This might work as a single use discount code if anyone wants it. It was valid for 2 weeks from 23rd July. £10 off

It probably won't stack as there is already the 15% off code to get this price.

Does this have USB C charging?
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, but it might be a bit fussy over the input voltage so check your power supply can do what the laptop needs. It has a status light so you know if it's charging properly.

I mentioned this in a previous deal and was criticised for it (rather unfairly I thought), but personally I would never buy another refurbished EliteBook or ProBook as I've had 3 that developed serious issues after just a year. Two of them were clearly cooling issues that would have required taking them apart to clean and replace the thermal paste that sits between the CPU and the heatsink. Granted this CAN happen with any brand of used laptop but in my case I've had older machines that are still going and it's only the HPs that were problematic. Your mileage will vary of course, but I'd be remiss not to mention it.
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, I remember - it was on my 745 G5 post. I don't think it was unfair as you wrote off the entire range of EliteBook and ProBooks and tried to turn people off them, it also seemed as though yours were older models and the specific issue of dried out thermal paste is a reseller problem not laptop design. I've got EliteBooks still in service from 2011/12 (8470p and G1 series) and they are solid, to the point where I used to only use Dell but typically find myself using HP business machines far more now, not to mention their warranty is transferrable and excellent, they will usually come out next day and fix it.
