sorted byMuch easier menu system. Supports Apple AirPlay (useful if you have Apple devices).
One could, but then one has a lot of faff, whereas one can attach this permanently to one’s television and watch all the popular streaming services with all the convenience of a remote (with voice control).
Lack of vpn and kodi apps on the Roku AFAIK. No Alexa integration. Not necessarily deal breakers, depends on what you use it for.
There's a 'twoku' app/workaround solution... Runs ads on entering a stream (regardless of sub or turbo status)
I read some people say it’s clipping and changing audio settings help, but not for me.
Looking at the forum posts, the issue seems to have been around for years. To be honest I just live with turning things off and on again now, so many suggestions and theories have cropped up, it’s difficult to have confidence there will be a fix
I don't know about Roku, but you can do things like this with the latest Google Chromecast, by attaching a hub to the usb-c port, and putting the power into the hub. You then have the ports on the hub to attach all manner of things.
Does your tv not have usb port where you could plug it in? I would have thought if the tv has hdmi, then it would have usb too. I don't think you can connect usb stick to roku stick...
I use fire stick's home page very little, so can't tell for certain but I don't remember any ads. I keep the fire stick always on, so whenever I switch the tv on it loads last used app which is Netflix in my case.
It does promote Prime video content on the home page but there are no other ads on there or on Netflix app as far as I remember.
Nope but there is Amazon Video
There is a media player so you could maybe play it over Wi-Fi?
My only issue is some videos trigger the crackling sound problem, which we can’t seem to resolve without turning the stick on/off.
Lots of threads about it with Roku and NowTv devices on google, but no real solution.
Can you describe what this crackling sound issue is like? I have a problem that sounds similar with my Firestick. Sometimes I notice a sound issue which is like there is a second audio layer in the background which is very crackly. It's still watchable just a little distracting and most noticeable with people talking and usually those with deeper voices.
Does the fire stick have ads? I think that was the reason I went for the roku instead when I was researching about it a year ago.
You get a powered hub and connect the chromecast to the hub to draw power. And the Chromecast will be able to view the files connected to the hub via an USB stick? Wow.. this is new!! :P Thanks...
Not directly but I play Eurosport player from my iPhone on it over AirPlay.
There is some Alexa integration. You can Play, Pause, turn volume up and down, turn off the TV etc.
Good to know, thanks for correcting
