generally, for my tastes, these are marginally better than the Bose Quietcomfort 45. The Bose will have either on par or marginally better noise cancellation. The Sennheisers have better sound quality. It has extendad bass, so better for rock, reggae, club music. The Bose is more neutral so will be better suited to classical music and vocalists

The Sennheiser fit can be a bit tight so you need to try them out in a store before you buy. They are not suited for people with larger heads (edited)

You can bend them by hand, they also soften with time

Dare I ask, how do these compare to the Sony XM3/4's?

they dont, but they cost much much less. Close to equal in terms of sound quality but the latest Sonys have better noise cancellation, battery life and fit (edited)

Another silly question from audio noob.. I have been happy with my 4.40BT but it delivered a fault recently and the right ear stopped working. Is 450BT a direct sequel? The same but slightly better? (edited)

Yes, the same but slightly better - certainly better bluetooth implementation and these have noise cancellation - which is only sometimes noticeable, although you dont need noise cancellation on these as they isolate sound superbly. I cant even hear the announcements on the underground
