If you're wanting some skateboarding goodness for the PC, then Session at this price could tick the box for you. I've played a few hours of this and more recently Skater XL . Skater XL is the one I ended up playing the most, although I must admit, when I last played sessions was quite some time ago. I plan on going back to it this evening, because there have been updates since my last look, as well as more content.

Sessions came out of early access at the end of last year, so I'm hoping to fall in love with another skateboarding game again.

Controls are NOT easy and you will need a pad for it. That said, there is an easier control settings (Legacy), which puts things closer to the likes of the old SKATE games, but also... not quite It's worth taking it slow and figuring it out, because the native control system can be awesome and adds a lot to it, if you really stick it out. It's not very forgiving, but it feels awesome when you nail a perfect run.

Couldn't even imagine playing this on the steam deck, especially with the native controller setup.

I only say that as timing and positioning is mega important to pulling off tricks, but mainly grinds.

Personally I prefer to have a bigger screen for this one. However there are settings to make grinds auto lock on, so that would make it easier 100%.

I don't like that though, because it does limit versatility. If I had a steam deck, I think auto locking in would be a must.

Hats off to anyone playing it well with standard settings on the SD. It's hard work enough on a big screen (Gets easier though)

I am absolutely awful at this game, much similar to my real life skateboarding years ago.

This game seems repetitive and seems to involve grinding your way through to success.

Took the plunge and brought this. Steep learning curve but its fun to just cruise about popping tricks. Works fine on Steam Deck out the box as well!

    Ohhhhh here we go again!
I was discussing this last time about taking the plunge lol, was on the fence. Not sure I can resist anymore. Especially at this price.
I have no patience, so not sure how annoyed I would get lol. Not so much at the controls and how hard it could be to play but more the levels and bumping into things. I used to hate that in some skateboarding games.

Ken, when it downloads will you let me know how bad it is in regards to that lol. I've played some skateboarding games where the slightest bump and you fly half way across the map haha! (slight exaggeration :P)

Hey, had a good time on it tonight, but yes... you bump something, you're falling off. It's not forgiving at all. You may prefer the lagacy control mode to start with. There's loads of settings to make things how you'd like them. Stuff like gravity, board spin rate, scoop speed, truck tightness and all that.

It's a learning curve for sure and anyone that plays it will find it hard to start with. (edited)

If the standard ones weren't for you, legacy settings might be more your thing.

    UPDATE:
OMG, I absolutely love it lol.
Ken, I am Goofy so the entire tutorial I was like why is it telling me to do this, this feels so wrong. I kept using the wrong feet, well in my head I was like "this is not right, why is it telling me this" lol. I just kept going though, it wasn't too bad even with that.

Then I finished the tutorial and it mentioned "True stance" So I was like. "Ohhhh, please, this must be it!"

Sure enough, it's what my brain was expecting!!! That should be the absolute default method if you ask me, but that's me as a skater. I can see why the controls would not be that way by default. As it's much simpler to not have to think about which foot your using (or rather, hand/stick on controller for the most part) but this was having a counter effect on me. I could barely pop out of stuff with the default controls as my head was automatically relating each stick to my correct foot and the default controls make that harder!!

I now have it set to true skate, I don't think I will ever turn that off. Now I can naturally do a Kickflip without thinking, Ollie etc. Jeeze the Ollie, on the basic controls. My head was struggling with that one the most as it was basically forcing me to do an Ollie as if I am regular but as I am Goofy my brains like your using the wrong foot!! but just ignore the game, finish tutorial and set it up correctly lol.

With the "True Stance" I now feel like it's natural. As I am goofy, my back foot is now correct as if it was my real back foot lol, and now if I end up in Switch stance I can easily understand the controls...well I say easily, in time maybe. I am still finding it a bit confusing and hard to get used to although no were near as hard as I thought it was going to be!

You know what I find the hardest, timing, positioning, figuring out when I need to pop, how fast to go etc etc.

Though even in real life I always found it hard to react fast enough when doing lines, with trick after trick with not much thinking between! Maybe it's getting older but my reaction times felt pretty bad trying to pull off an ollie into a grind then popping out lol. I haven't tried that with "True Stance" yet but I plan to later. Without True Stance that thing was messing with my head as it felt like I was getting told the "regular stance" controls lol.

Definitely looking forward to more of this and hopefully getting good. It feels so satisfying when you do pull something off!

The only thing I hate so far, switching to True Stance is the fact I then lose the ability to turn left and right with the sticks and I am forced to use the LT and RT? I can't see a way to change that. I am so used to turning with sticks in all games that, this feels weird but I will soon get used to it and it's worth the sacrifice if it means I can play in the correct way i.e True Stance is the only way that is going to feel right to me as a fellow skater!

Do you play with True Stance? I am trying to think if that is how Skate was, that's how I remember it but maybe it wasn't but that's how my brain naturally thinks the controls should be!

Sorry for the huge message but I had to share in case anyone else is on the fence, this is absolutely awesome lol and the bumping into things and falling was my major off putting point of buying it and I can say this doesn't bother me at all!! mainly due to how fast you can just jump back on your board or to your set marker. It was annoying in games in the past as the bail animation took ages but this is basically instant if you just press to get on your feet when you bail.

    Absolutely amazing
Thank you for the deal alert! (edited)

Really glad you like it! Especially as I just found out that Legacy controls were removed.
The good thing is how customisable it is. I've been playing hardcore settings, just to feel it out. It's hard work, but so nice when you get a line down

Standardly though, I use normal, but have dabbled with truestance.
