Is this the cheapest a 2TB SSD drive has been available in the UK? Either way, a pretty good deal if you're after a SATA drive.

Specs on the Silicon Power website are here (although largely meaningless IMO - SATA drives all perform broadly comparably in day to day usage). silicon-power.com/web…a55

"The SSD controller is the PS3111-S11-13 from Phison, a DRAM cache is not available. Silicon Power has installed 96-layer TLC NAND flash on the Ace A55, the flash chips are made by Toshiba. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are processed more quickly. The Ace A55 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s write."

Well, they may have been Toshiba NAND modules back then, they certainly aren't now.

I'm holding out for £50 for a 2TB drive but I've had two DOA Silicon Power SSD's (2 separate orders, one being the replacement) so wouldn't be too enthusiastic about this brand.

I'm going the used route. Bought a 2TB PM863 Samsung Enterprise drive for £50 from eBay recently. These particular ones have 2,800TBW for the 2TB model. Seller says health is at least 95%. They might be old but SSDs generally lasts a long time. Let's see how it performs.

Any good for Xbox ? External

    Depends.

Xbox Series S/X games have to be run from fast storage, either internal or one of the Seagate Expansion cards. You can copy Series S/X games to one of these to archive it, but not play it.

Xbox 360/One games can run off external storage. (edited)

Goods to see the 2TB £60 barrier broken through
    Onwards and downwards!

NAS fans with smaller capacities should start to look at cheap SSDs (or NVMe) in external controllers connected to a powered USB hub. NAS enclosures tend to be VERY expensive for what they are, and USB hubs are very cheap.

As flash continues to crash (and there are forces that will continue to push prices down for a long time to come) it is time flash started to be used in many more ways.

Interesting. What kind of read \ write would you get withthis kind of setup?

Very good reliable drives, certainly better than some of the other cheap otions out there (Kingston A400, Integral V series). (edited)
    WALKONBY's avatar
Totally agree wrt the Kingston & Integral inferiority in this price segment.

    Good value for money.

No idea how it will perform against better drives , but ideal for upgrading from a traditional HDD, or for storing files.

I hope the performance is better then their website, which was like loading a MySpace page in the 90's (a reference not everyone will get )

was fast enough here but yes the way it builds. (edited)

Do you have a time machine? Samsung 870 EVO 4TB was £115 not long ago after cashback.

    just to let people know...

amazon seemed to have two separate models in stock over the last few weeks

initial fulfillments were made using a model that worked really well in a PERC H710 RAID controller...8 drives in RAID0 config worked well, no issues

later fulfillments were against models that aren't so well behaved

these seem to disconnect on reboot, requiring a further reboot to recognise the drives again...they flash amber on my T320/R720XD rather than green as per the first batches

they seem to have a slightly lower capacity compared to the first batches ~1870GB vs 1900GB

they seem to work ok if you can get the server to boot and recognise the drives, I've found a single reboot solves it...not such a problem for a server that is supposed to be on 24x7x365, but a faff none the less
