At that time the battery ran down quickly in standby (3-4 days, perhaps, without use), and the only work-around was manually turning power off by holding the button on the back for 5 seconds. It would then be slow re-connecting when you wanted to use it (often wasn't recognised), and it still was regularly completely flat when you wanted to use it.
Now it will automatically power down (not just into standby) after a short while of inactivity. To re-activate you have to hold the button on the back. For my purposes (speaker in bathroom, and occasionally portable) it's now working really well: only have to charge it once every few weeks.
That said, the Roam is primarily focused on being a portable speaker, so you'd expect the speaker to not drain its battery when inactive, so the auto-power down is definitely a positive change! I assume when left on charge it doesn't automatically power down? (edited)
