This remark is often made. All I know is that I have the MotoG, and its camera / video are perfectly OK quality for me, the average user.
I am sure that the average person will be satisfied with the camera.
Can't speak for the Moto E, but the G is great - read the many positive reviews on the interweb.
It's a phone - if you want a camera buy a camera! Actually the camera isn't too bad anyway.
Odd that - as it's a PHONE .... not a Camera!
My camera makes a crap phone - I'm thinking about taking it back and demanding a refund!
sorry but its not better in every way
Why not get a newly released Snapdragon 400 powered Lumia 630 for £79.95 instead? IPS LCD, 4.5" screen, 8GB internal storage AND a simply way to save all apps to the SD card. It also has almost certainly got a better camera (and certainly a vastly superior camera app!)...

motorola have been making phones for waaaay longer than samsung.
its a shame that google now has their patents since lenovo bought them
I could not have said that better - I read loads of reports saying how bad the Moto G camera is and once I got I am more than happy with the results and I am a photographer. Great for snaps when you need it. What is it with people and cameras on phones
I present you with the Nokia Lumia 620 on Flickr;

Not all budget smartphones are saddled with cameras as duff as those on the Motorola's

It really depends on your needs.
Most people prefer one device over two.
In the Moto G, the camera is perfectly capable of taking pictures and movies for Facebook that look decent, but it is inferior to even an entry level camera. If this one is worse, they cut a corner too many.
Not much good for most apps now with what Google has done to Android's SD card support.
Why is the 4gb internal an issue if you can put a 32gb micro SD in it and use Link2SD/Apps2SD etc?
And I'd take a microSD slot over a good camera any time. Lack of SD puts me off the G.
It seems the Moto E can be rooted here.

I'll second to this. Where it under-performs is in low-light scenarios (as I expected), but otherwise the picture quality is very decent! I'm happy with the color balance. I installed the Google Camera app, and my experiences has shown a bit better end results compared to stock camera app, I recommend Moto G owners to give it a try
Your average lay person isn't going to want to root their phone. Hell, they'll not even be aware you can do it.

The 630 is already available at £79.95 p&g upgrade at Carphone Warehouse. Beats the Moto E in pretty much every possible spec - and has WP8.1, so can be easily set to save apps to the SD card too.
The only thing where the 630 is lacking is in the front facing camera. It does have 512MB RAM, but that was never an issue with the 520 so I don't see it being much of one with the 630.
Bigger screen than the E too.
I don't disagree, hence why I mentioned it and the implication of my comment is that it will probably be better than the Moto E (given that the E is roughly on a par with the 520). I didn't realise you could already buy it though and they're likely to be close enough that the biggest difference is still the operating system.
Edit: The OS is what is comes down to really. Windows Phone has had some great cheap / low end handsets for a while now but the Moto E is exciting because until recently buying a cheap Android phone was essentially the same as paying eighty quid for a brick. For anyone who specifically wants Android but has a tight budget the Moto E is a great choice. If on the other hand you'd rather have Windows Phone or are platform agnostic then it's not so clear cut and if anything there are better Windows Phone options.

You do know the new Moto G 4G has an SD card slot too?
Because there are no apps for Windows Phone.
It is like owning a Betamax player. Who cares if it is technically superior if there is no content?
Kindly point me in the direction of an on device video editor for Android...
Or how about totally free offline music mixes?
Or free offline mapping worldwide? (That actually works and doesn't rely on rubbish openstreetmaps data)
Or a free offline translator...
There are app shortcomings on Windows Phone. But I dare say I could find an equivalent for near enough every app you have a need for. & it'll save you being a part of the Google ad network too
Windows Phone is far from the Betamax of the smartphone. It is backed by the biggest software company in the world - has world class infrastructure and services backing it up....and has lots of new manufacturers coming onboard this year too.
Aside from a healthy app store, what does Android really have going for it?
I don't think you are well suited to Windows Phone at the mo because you aren't looking for the very able third party solutions that are out there. Flickr Booth for example...a superb app that you clearly haven't even tried.
Windows Phone is a great platform if you are prepared to get over the notion that third party apps are rubbish. Some of the third party apps on Windows Phone are better than the first party apps on the other platforms!
I've had my 1020 for almost 5 months now. It STILL feels like the most complete smartphone I've ever had (offline MixRadio, offline worldwide navigation, offline translator packs --- all free!).
& that camera - still amazing!
I just hope that the developers get on board quickly to convert those that are unsure. It'd be a miserable world if we just had Android and iOS. There would be no competition - Android would remain as clunky and ugly as it always has been.

My nephew bought a Moto G 2-3 months ago, its now died. When he got back to Tesco, he was told that his warranty was void as he had unlocked it. That to me is as silly as saying that you void the warranty if you install a non-tesco App on it, After all Apps are more likely to affect the running of the phone than entering an UNLOCK code!!!!!
Proper Cop-out by Tesco

about 2gb left but with an SD card.
if space is that much of an issue, try the moto g.
I do agree with you about saving the extra and getting the Moto G, but this phone apparently has a '24' hour battery life.
I obviously know it's 24 hours under certain usage but still I'd find that kind of battery life worth the little lag and longer loading times.
Anyone heard any reviews on the Moto E's battery life?
24 hours? I get over 48 hours out of my Moto G with normal usage mixed usage ( no games), best battery life of any phone out there. Also use Qualcom's Battery Guru app which extends it even further and Power Schedule app to switch off wifi when not needed.
Expandable up to 32 gb
I like to take a complete backup of my phone using CWM before messing about with custom ROMs etc. YMMV.
