Is there any tesco branding on it when unlocked

google sell them sim free they are unlocked straight out of the box so should not need to unlock them .knowyourmobile.com/mot…ice

price is for the 16mb phone not the 8mb phone so £130 not a bad price phones do not have upgradable memory

And what if you buy it simlocked from Tesco?

If you need your phone unlocking, can highly recommend Simon Green on EBay...used him twice, very satisfied...sales pitch over!
I should be on commission..but its just a friendly comment. No I don't know him other than via EBay.

its a good deal this but I mean your statement is wrong, ` buy the tesco mobile moto G for only£99.00 + £2.04 unlocking - much better than paying £130 in other places.`
you do know that Tesco's has been OOS since the first day

if they get them back tho its a good deal, 101 quid all in and unlocked

SORRY I CAN'T HEAR YOU. I don't see anything in that link about Google selling them.

made by google sold by everyone read article phones4u o2 tesco direct do i need to go on .my main point is and still remains valid the phone is not locked so do not need it unlocked and is sim free. the end of discussion

Worked perfectly for me on my new tesco moto G

would the tesco one need to be unlocked to use giffgaff in as they run on 02

yes, to use the Moto G on giffgaff/o2 if bought from Tesco needs to be unlocked. a lot of the guys on the tesco forum have confirmed this when they received their orders from last week.

JohnDavies, the Tesco supplied phones ARE locked to Tesco. I'm using one right now. As soon as I put my 3 sim in, it asked for unlock code which I got for the bargain price of £2.04 from this guy on EBay.

In answer to GiffGaff/O2 sim question. No, you cannot use them without unlocking. My wife is on O2. We had to unlock her Moto G too.

much better than paying £130 in other places.

not necessarily a better deal if you like to have your updates straight away without having to flash ROMS etc. this is locked to tesco, therefore any updates that are released, you will have to wait for Tesco to update the phone rather than getting it straight from Motorola without any delay.
this probably wont effect the majority of users, but its still something that needs to be noted if you dont want to be waiting months for updates that an extra 15/30£ could have prevented.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. My Nexus 4 has got worse the more it gets updated.

I don't understand why anyone would get a tat phone like this when you can get a nexus 4 second hand for not much more.I only want 130 for my 4 now I have my 5

Seeing that this phone has been given rave reviews and it will come with a 12 month warranty is a good enough reason for people to buy it rather than go down the second hand route.

I have used his services 6 or 7 times now. Always quick and accurate with his comms and never had any problems.

simple really; not everyone wants a second hand phone that's a year old and costs more. This is on par with a Nexus 4 (some argue it's better). You get your new from a retailer with the usual guarantees.
Basically you'd be silly to go buy a second hand n4.

all you have to do is flash unbranded firmware onto it and you'll get OTAs like everyone else

I can't see Tesco having an android development section who finished coding a Tesco-specific Moto G ROM in time for the phone's release and are now coding kitkat as we speak. It's surely the generic Motorola ROM in a phone that's sim-locked to Tesco mobile.
You'll be able to get OTA updates just as I have had the Motorola android update on my (initially, but now unlocked) T-mobile RAZRi, or I'll eat my SIM card!
I can't remember the last Motorola phone I had which included network-specific software and my last phones have been RAZRi, Atrix, Defy, all of which were initially locked to one network or another and all of which had generic Motorola ROMs.

Now that Moto is 'linked' with Google I can't see this changing for the worse.

BTW another thumbs up for Simon Green the unlocker. Good value and quick service every time I've used him.

Second hand phone with **** poor battery (made worse with 12 months use) and overheating issues or this? Hmmmm

It's not a difficult choice, if both were new it maybe.

there was a link in the other forums with various network based firmware available to download for flashing purposes. The unlocked handsets come with a RETAIL title in the firmware whereas the Tesco (or other overseas network) ones came with the relevant network titled in the firmware. I've never owned a Motorola on any network so I wouldn't know about their updates, but there have been other phones that Tesco initial sold locked that were hot by delays due to software updates.

true, I've raised a post on this over at XDA. no one has worked out a way of doing it at the moment. I just prefer not to mess about with roms although I do love seeing what people create.

Cheers. Got a Moto G from Tesco. I will try this later (_;)
