Visit local lumber yard will be cheaper, just re-done mine using 2.4m x 5inch and they were only £1.70 a board

Not a comment on the price of these boards but a bit of maths to show just how expensive feather edge fences are.

These are 10cm wide. Assuming a 2cm overlap on each side of the board, a pack of 10 will fence in 0.6m.

So, for 10m of fencing that would cost (not including posts, arris rail, concrete or fittings) £284.

My garden, for example, has a boundary of around 120m, so that would cost £3,400.

I thank god I did my fence 20 years ago.

    Would a 2cm overlap not cover 0.82cm?
A single board will be 10cm wide, every subsequent board added with a 2cm overlap will add an additional 8cm

My local sawmill do these but 125mm boards for £1.28 so this is not that cheap

I know there are millions of these types of fences around, but I hate them personally, as I do with any type of solid panelling. For longevity I would always fit fencing with fencing boards that allow you to have a small space in-between the boards to allow wind to go somewhere. I have seen many a solid panel broken or lying across a garden after storms.

Having gaps for wind to go through is no good if you want privacy, just build it correct with the right size posts & footings ect and it will last.

Are these any good for edging a lawn - to make a divide between gravel and the grass?

very good, but only for one season Next spring it will be just bits of rot

There are only two reasons to buy any kind of timber from a DIY chain.

    1) It's Sunday and you've had a DIY epiphany and you must crack on

    2) you don't live near a Timber Merchant/Sawmill.

Otherwise you're surely paying nearly as much as double for the same stuff you can get from a timber specialist merchant.

Believe it or not - some of these Wickes prices (sale prices) are as cheap if not cheaper than many or most builders. I have been leaving comments on the deals over the weeks and checking prices. There is never a lot in it and at times (not always) Wickes is cheaper. Not their standard prices I add.

Good advice is never to assume anyone is cheaper. Price your product everywhere

Could you use this on a shed for the outside? I’m trying to find something that will look good and not break the bank. Thank you for posting good price for Wickes.

Yep. I converted a 4m x 3m wooden greenhouse into a shed last year using feather board. It came out really well and wintered with no issues.

This stuff is paper thin crap! Local timber merchants 1.8m x 125 mm x 25 mm for £1.44 per board inc VAT.

50250804-xSDlc.jpgSmaller, thinner and cost more than your local timber yard..
