It's decent stuff but only if you go to the store and pick out the crap.

Definitely good advice! My local marks the bowed ones down to a quid to clear, i always grab the best of the bad ones for odd jobs at home, they're unusable a lot of the time!

Would this be good for a wall that’s going to be tiled?

Wickes have sheets of tile backer board on offer currently - suspect as cheap as you'll find it anywhere.

Am thinking about insulating a wall - would this be a good thing to use for the studwork? Not sure it would create enough depth

75 x 50 is probably the lowest you'd go for internal studwork.
    Typical it's larger like 100 x 50

Depends how "official" you want it to be and how thick insulation you're putting in there.

If it's a home build and you're just doing it DIY, you could look for 44 x 95
Best checking local timber yards, they'll probably have websites too

Under no circumstances order for delivery. They'll send you the bowed and twisted ones. Only visit where you can pick out the good ones. Remember always install crown up.

I laugh but I use it all the time at home, too much of a cheapskate!

I have got about 8 of these delivered in the past and some of them have come horribly warped. Wickes have always been good at dropping off a replacement if you get them delivered and aren’t happy. Sometimes they would let me keep the bad planks while other times they collected them and took them away.

Thinking of doing a media wall in the lounge to hide TV, was going to order this but sounds like they arrive bent. B&Q may be the way forward.

Any order runs the risk of being supplied poor quality timber, best to select yourself in-store if you have the means of getting it home safely.

Some of it is only good enough for firewood

Always worth checking local timber yards.
These are the same price as my usual place and I'd trust the timber yard to actually have straight pieces

Never had an issue with these, probably used over 1000 of them. Even if you go to a wood yard you have to go through and pick out straight ones if that's what you need.
In the store they sometimes have these stored vertically which will all be warped but there'll usually be a full pack somewhere stored horizontally which will mostly be straight.

Haha them storing them horizontally doesn’t help, you still need 20 minutes to sort through them to find a few straight ones.

If you manage to buy straight ones are they likely to warp later? I’ll be using the, as batons screwed to a wall. I don’t want them warping and ripping themselves off.

If you get them secured in place, they won't warp afterwards.
They could warp if you just left them on the floor of the garage for a few days etc.

Also, if they're dry when you pick them up / have them delivered, much less chance of warping than if there is moisture in them and they dry out at home.

Could this be used for bench slats?

Mildly amusing/puzzling/annoying that Wickes give both Imperial and Metric measurements for the width and thickness of this item, but only state the metric length.

Which Alexa asures me is 7 feet 11 inches approximately (in old money, as the saying goes).

Hope the info is of use.
