They are tougher than the plastic ones but they do corrode after a while making them difficult to get undone - I wouldn't buy them again.

The best (commonly available) hose fittings are the Hoselock Pro - made of nickel-plated brass. Well-made, durable and don't leak.
The trouble is - they're about £7 per piece!

Last for many, many, years though!! (and probably cheaper in the long run!)

I’ll second that: I still have mine from when I moved to this house 12 years ago, so don’t mind the cost. It’s connected to the outside tap all year round too. (edited)

I'm not at all sure of the benefits of Aluminium for this application.

1 My plastic fittings never actually break, so I do not need a stronger material
2 All fittings are attached to plastic hoses anyway. Plastic might be a better match considering the coefficient of thermal expansion, although that's probably not the critical factor
3 The rubber ring is supposed to do the sealing
4 Aluminium adds a corrosion risk

Plastic fittings definitely do break. Plastic is fine. It has advantages. Lasting forever in the elements isn't one of them. There are many kinds of plastic, I doubt hoses are made of the same stuff as fittings.

Hozelock aren't stupid, they'll pay a lot of money to have their products front and centre of every garden centre and all over the TV, charge you to cover the extra cost, and use materials that don't last so you'll be buying again from the only brand you know.

But yes these are presumably silver for looks and brass is what you'd ideally want.

Got these, they're awful. They stick, they leak, the nozzle is all or drizzle (doesn't do nothing!), just not got round to replacing them.

I would go for brass fittings over these. Can usually pick them up at lidl for roughly this price.

Anyone got a good link for a 3/4" hose? Max water flow from 1/2" is 12L/min?

Odd, the comments suggest not a good purchase, but 420+ degrees
