Is this legal to carry in the car?

If the blade has a locking mechanism then no. It is illegal, and would result in the charge of possession of a bladed article if stopped by Police. (edited)

The trouble is these are way too easy to get from the internet there needs to be so way of limiting who can get a knife Amazon should have to see age verification on delivery even if it from an adult's account

Pretty much all knife crime is committed with kitchen knives which are usually taken from their parents kitchens or stolen from supermarkets. Or some rare cases more specialist knives. It's very rare for knife crime to be committed using folding knives like this.

Amazon are supposed to get ID on delivery, although in my experience that'd 50/50 but maybe that rate would be higher if the person receiving the parcel looked below 25.

This has a 75mm / 2.95 inch blade & is a manually folding one, so should be fine in most circumstances?

UK law for selling, buying and carrying knives and weapons gov.uk/buy…ves
Basic laws on knives and weaponsIt’s illegal to use any knife or weapon in a threatening way.
    It’s also illegal to:
    • carry most knives or any weapons in public without a ‘good reason’
    • sell most knives or any weapons to anyone under the age of 18
The 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to these 2 rules are folding pocketknives that:
    • 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟯 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀
    • 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐤𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 (𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐧, 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮

Good reasons for carrying a knife or weapon in publicIf the knife or weapon is not banned, some examples of ‘good reasons’ include using it:
    • for your work
    • for religious reasons, such as the kirpan some Sikhs carry
    • as part of any national costume
A court will decide if you’ve got a good reason to carry a knife or a weapon if you’re charged with carrying it illegally. If you want advice on what counts as a ‘good reason’, contact your local police or get legal advice. (edited)

It has a locking blade so not legal for carry without a good reason.

I've actually never understood the fixed/locking blade law. Any knife can be used as a weapon. I think it's maybe something to do with concealment. As said above nearly all knife crime is done by something easily available in the kitchen drawer.

If the blade isn't locking/fixed there's a large chance it will close and cut you when used to stab something.

Any knife deal thread is always guaranteed to be a mine of misinformation. This knife does not fall into the category of any banned knife. It’s also not in the category of “UK friendly” or every day carry (EDC). However it is also NOT illegal to carry or be in obsession of, IF you have good reason to carry it. If you have it in the boot of your car with your camping gear going camping or with tools going to/from work, you have little or no chance of prosecution. If you have it in your pocket coming out of a nightclub at 2:00am, then there’s a 100% chance of prosecution. (edited)

If you are going camping, you are right. If you have it with camping gear in your car with no specific plans to go camping it's illegal. The law is quite clear on this point. You either have to be using it for a permitted task or taking it to do so (so a handyman using it for work or taking it in his van to work would be fine for example).

I'm certain young thugs can get hold of bigger blades elsewhere. Surprised how zombie knives even exist and are being sold.

I had a stop search last year an on the back seat was a fishing box an rod an fly's ect..,they opened it an actually confiscated it ....I'm 50 with zero interactions with police in my life...I was floored an should have kicked off ...but just took it on the chin... looking back I should have done more.

    from the item page -

    Wattage 3600 kilowatt hours.

Given the power figures I think it isn't actually a knife , it is a light sabre

Well if you could be done for it being in the boot of your car so could the amazon driver delivering it (edited)
    MattMac's avatar
    MattMac
I don't think anyone said that. You have to have a legitimate reason to carry it. Delivering it (or taking home from a shop) would be a legitimate reason. Having it in the car for no good reason would be illegal though.

If your car is searched the police will confiscate and maybe you get away with a telling off however if stopped and searched and this is in you possession there will be problems

Awful. The jimping looks horrendous. Also the locking mechanism on the back means if you’re doing something tough and squeeze the handle you can disengage the lock.
