    Lovely loft ladders

One of the benefits of a wooden folded like this is they require just the loft door space when folded unlike the metal counterparts

Comes with a good warranty too

They can also be repaired as mostly wood

Another top notch feature of this model is the way to install it

First you put the frame in

Then simply lift the ladder and door part up into the frame and it locks in

So much better than the others on the market

Good finger joint wood connections too

Installed this in about 3 hours on my own and that included expanding the loft access hole

Only fault I have with this is the top steps get narrow due to the access door being statically connected to it

    Apart from this

Good investment and good long warranty (edited)

How easy is this to install for a DIY beginner? Does it come with instructions?

It was one of my first DIY jobs when we bought a house. Judging by the other comments saying you fit the frame first then the ladders, this should be a lot easier than mine!

Not a fan - I had one, overly complicated plastic latch broke, they no longer made replacements. Contacted customer services who pretty much told me tough, buy a new loft hatch. I won't buy Youngman again, got Fakro instead, much better.

it's a step up from the last one they offered

I had one in my last house and found it excellent. Took a lot of use and abuse without even needing any attention.

The only issue is the need for a loft opening to suit the dimensions. I found it easier to make a new opening to accommodate it rather than modify the existing one.

Are these or any loft ladders pretty easy to fit?

We have a hatch at the top of the stairs so I am guessing this loft ladder will replace that as it has its own cover?

I got a three stage one that was easy to fit. Simply screws just inside the hatch and then folds back when not in use.

From looking elsewhere, it seems like you need a hole around 55cm x 113cm in your ceiling to accommodate this, so you'll need to cut a bigger hole and likely put a few noggins in around what you cut out. Our current loft hatch is awkwardly over one bottom corner of our bed, so will have to check whether the gradient will see the bottom feet clear the bed. If I can get it to work, I'll buy this.

As Peridot says above, you don't need to expand an existing hatch if the location is awkward. Our hatchway was on the landing which meant it lent itself to opening up, but you might want to cut out a new opening with very little or no extra work. Agree with general comments on folding wooden access ladders. Ours is sturdy and easy to use and folds up within the hatch space. Applied clear floor paint as a protective finish which has lasted well. Not this product though.
