Decent set of knives for a young chef

My nephew has just landed himself a job as a chef in a mid range hotel and i woul like to get him a few knives as a present. He is in a professional kitchen so they need to be reasonable but he is still a trainee so I dont want anything too flash (no one wants to see L plates on a Ferrari).
Out of my field here so recommendations would be appreciated

What's the budget? What section of the kitchen is he in if pastry section a carving knife or paring knife if he is on prep a kitchen knife is basically all you need but me personally I love a white bread knife serrated it's also down to preference of the person.

I find Victorinox a reliable brand, but note that I'm only a home cook 😄

I got Denby from outlet store £15 6 knifes and sharpen them using a multi tool knife/sharpener. I find any decent so long as sharpen/maintain yourself -a college chef dropout here!

Personally I would tell him you want to buy him some but let him settle into the job so that he can give you an informed choice on what he wants.

It is a lovely idea and congratulations to him.

It's a very personal choice for a chef.

Wusthof do a chefs knives set in a leather case, but best to ask.
