That "small formality" of erm, the largest fiscal deficit in the EU (does not meet the minimum requirements for EU membership - severe austerity would be required to meet it), the currency, the fact that all EU members have to unilaterally accept Scotland (erm, Spain?)... Oh and that in your mind Scotland would just hop skip and jump the queue into blissful EU membership. These are just the bare necessities.

Unless your in Scotland! (Scottish Government have publicly declared desire and intent to get straight back in EU). Probably with the erm small formality of independence.

Hey! Just an update, (now season 5 is all set up), it is running at around 720p, not 1080p. Looks fine given the screen size, but not ideal.

The laptop is out of stock anyway now. I signed up for the newsletter back in April but for some reason deleted the email when I talked myself out of buying this laptop last time :(

Well I have the 17inch version with Gtx 1060 6gb and I7 77k HQ, and the thermal after a replaced the paste with Artic mx4, on full load it doesn't go over 55 degrees, I also got a gigabyte aero 15 and temps goes to 70 full load, definitely the case details, and if you noticed the Omen heat pipe system it's way better, which means they know what they doing

I’ve got the 1660ti variant and it’s awesome! As said previously the cooling is great and that’s the main thing I was looking for in a gaming laptop. The RAM will be my next upgrade but so far it does what I want it too, even VR with the Quest.

outwar6010 A reviewer ended up using a dremel to fix the thermal issues on a seperate asus laptop.

yeah but what if you play games like apex or call of duty. my 7700k at 5ghz and 5700 xt struggles to hit that frame rate. that was my point, why would someone pay so much money to play csgo on a laptop... can't get my head around it

Every leak/rumour points to there being an Air this year and the pros will come later. 13 might or might now launch this year and the 16 will arrive much later on, like next year. Gotta remember that not all pro software will be migrated over to ARM. So, people that buy these to do work and they need it now. I would get it. Especially the 16" inch.

I recon it will use what will essentially be the iPad OS which they have been trying to call a computer for a while. I'm sure it will be a very good Netbook but lets face it netbooks suck. They are the Windows 8 of the hardware world, useless as desktops\laptops and mobile devices. The worst of both like Argos. Ultimately did anyone ever think it would be nice to phone apps on a desktop? If yes then they probably love Windows 8.

Got any figures on that one?

Very tempted! Also tempted by the Lenovo Flex 5 14 also at Curry's. This Lenovo will also upgrade RAM post-purchase (apparently). Nothinh patronising and I'm not even that young. Most of the elderly or the kids will do web browsing on this, youtube, watch videos, pictures, mostly basic stuff. And this will tick the boxes. It is not about being skint, it is about not spending a lot to get features you don't need. Your kids may deserve better than this, my 7 year old does not need better than this and I'm glad laptops at low specs still exist. And BTW, I still use a laptop like this, so if you think my comment is patronising, I may be in the 'skint and old category'. There is a very nice HP Envy for your kids, if you want something better, £800 and it has very good specs they will probably not use. Alternatively, there is Apple for £1,000+, my mother certainly does not need it to read the newspapers on line and Skype with us, this will be sufficient. If my comment is patronising, I am not surprised of the all red tape, you have to be careful how to paint something, how to name a road, how to do a sculpture or how to relate to some people. So, we start making up new words, just not to offend some. Gone with the Wind is considered offensive and vulgar, and should be banned, isn't it?

I think it's ageist and patronising to think it's okay to palm this load of old toot off on children or the elderly. Just because someone is pre-loved it doesn't mean they're skint, IT illiterate or deserve second best. Our children deserve better than this too.

Nice toy!

I'd go for something like this. Used (and in need of a clean!), but for £170 (plus a power cable) you'd get a 7th gen i5 processor, 8gb ram and an SSD. I had a couple of freezes on Grid though then seemed to sort itself out. Been quite impressed though agree re game prices. Handy for gaming away from home for anyone who doesn't already have a console though not sure the monthly price for Pro is worth it.

Tried this out over the last couple of nights on the new chromebook. Wiped the dust off the old ps3 controller and tried my hand at Grid. Did ok, seeing as i haven't game'd for 5 years. That is until the screen froze halfway down the main straight. Seconds later i find myself smashed into a wall. A few races later and it had ocured a couple times more and i guess that this is the major issue with this sort of system. Everything has to work and work instantly. Streaming works well for movies but perhaps needs some work if gaming like this is to take off. Also noticed the ridiculous prices that they are asking for games and not even new games either. Been dying to try this out but just seems like an awkward interface with a very poor pricing structure.

Any newbie advise on games just literally opened it, the pro worth it or do you buy tge games?

Or use your laptop/chromebook/phone, use an Xbox/PS4/Switch or other compatible controller, and get a free months trial. If you don't like it, walk away with zero investment.

For new members it is actually possible to get 4 months. Get your code from google using your chromebook and then go through the Stadia sign up. if prompted, select ‘Yes’ to ‘Do you have a Pro Pass?’ Instead of doing this, select no you will then be signed up with a 1 month free trial. Go into your Stadia settings > redeem code > enter the code from google. You will then have 3 months trial added to your existing 1 month trial =) discovered this by accident and not reading the instructions properly

Ok Alex.

Okay Paul, but I disagree.

Maybe read the whole comment? Double the cores is a recent thing in the last 2-3 years because of AMD and most gains in the last few years are efficiency (as well as lithography gains) and instruction sets. It’s a valid chip even today. And no-one compares base clocks... 10th gen doesn’t run at base clock in most tasks... I know you like to spend your time disagreeing with people when it comes to computer hardware but it’s obvious that I meant this is still a valid and useful laptop to many - not a replacement for a modern full-price laptop. And if you look at previous decades, the IPC gains have been much more substantial.

[Citation need] So in 9 years... Double the cores Double the threads 57% lower TDP 108% better single core performance 284% better multithreaded performance Despite running at a 44% lower clock in most tasks.

I love my x201 and still use it with PopOS but I'd struggle to agree its worth anywhere near this money with that amount of ram.

Solved it, haha. Actually when I got to that coverage check page, it was Aus page so purchase got validated on Aus region and then it offered AppleCare in that region. So I went to coverage check page again and changed the region to UK, validated purchase date again and then finally it showed me UK page for AppleCare. Happy days now, thanks mate for all the messages, cheers

Maybe your using a VPN or something because that is defo not the case. I told you to check if you had entered the purchase date. Now check if you are using a VPN, if not then switch to your data and try again. If that doesn’t work, just go to a local Apple shop and purchase Apple care over there. Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong or anything, you are just experiencing some technical difficulties (lol)

The case got weirder. I checked some forums, and found out problem was Apple did not have purchase date for such products. So I checked the coverage page and validated the purchase date, then I was able to proceed on AppleCare+, and got through to the choose your plan page but then price it is showing for me is A$49. I started on Apple UK page but it showed me Aus price for care, very weird. Looks like this serial number AirPod was supposed to be in Aus market as it is taking me to Aus page. Did you get to UK page and UK price?

Yeah that is really weird. I haven’t heard of that issue ever happening. Contact Apple, have a live chat with them.

Ok, so that’s different. You got the option to enter purchase date but I don’t get that, for me it says this device not eligible for AppleCare agreement. That’s weird

HP Pavilion 14-ce3606sa 14" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Silver - £599 delivered @ Currys PC World
Posted 1st AugPosted 1st Aug
Windows 10 Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 Processor RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD Full HD screen Battery life: Up to 10.5 hours

Yes ram and storage is upgradable. The screen is decent for word, YouTube and Netflix. It’s definitely not meant for colour accuracy. The battery life isn’t bad, around 4-7 hours depending on what you do. Do not buy it at £599, a few months ago I got this for £450. The price will go down. The only reason laptop prices are high right now is because a lot of students are looking for new laptops.

Better screen, that one has a 250nits IPS Screen, but it's still overpriced. The PC World one at £479 (But is 14 inch with 256GB SSD) If you really want a 512GB SSD and a 15 inch this one is better value at £550 (or £517 with student discount) Have to say that we should give praise for HP including the screen brightness on their specs. Some of them don't have very bright screens, but at least they are being transparent about it. Also all their model numbers seem to be unique, unlike ASUS.

Isn't this better? And cheaper?

On paper maybe 250 nits is not great but in real life it looked absolutely fine! Agree that the £479 one is much better value.

250nits isn't amazing but the £479 one, despite being in HP's cheaper range chassis with an IPS and 250nits is far better value than this £599 one with TN 220 nits even if it does have a bigger SSD. The spec on this one is not very rounded, they've upped the SSD and chassis but at expense of a screen. There's only one thing worse than a screen with bad viewing angles and that's a dim screen with bad viewing angles.

Is it worth buying this for £400 when one can get new laptop with amd ryzen 4000 series for not much more.. I guess build quality is better in these P50..

I don't order as much as some do from itzoo :) but I've never seen a Grade A+ P50 - as these are (I assume) all ex-lease machines it'd have to be one that was living in a box pretty much unused. I've been idly watching for a few months what comes in stock - sometimes they update first thing in the morning, sometimes afternoons. Haven't seen site updates on weekends, though I could be wrong. I did try asking in my email (discussing the faulty P50/Xeon/M2000M) if they'd get more of that spec, but they didn't reply.

According to the website, 'From time to time we will have devices is “As New” condition, for all product categories these devices will be listed as GRADE A+ and should not show any signs of previous use' Mind you Grage A+ will probably be like unicorns, you have to be very lucky to see one let alone get one

Not sure they get Grade A+, think it's Grade A- or Grade A. The P50 I'm typing on was Grade A and it was in really fantastic condition. Couldn't fault it, really. The Grade B P50 (the Xeon/M2000M options they had in stock last week) wasn't quite so great, definitely a bit more grimey. And it had a screen fault, so it's going back (not that you should expect that, unless it's mentioned in the description). They reduced the prices the day after I ordered, too, but suppose fate decided that for me anyway. I might still go for a Xeon/M2000M if they turn up again.

Thanks, I couldnt see it either, thought maybe i was missing something. Oh well, will continue looking. hoping a grade A+ will be on soon.
