Went into EE store to pick up my pre-order Huawei P20 Pro, and they have the Huawei P20 Pro on pay as you go, for just £499 when you top up £10. Totally £509, which is way way cheaper than what car phone warehouse are charging £799. You cant claim the headphones anymore, but for £499 for a flagship phone only launched today is a bargain price.

This is a confirmed national price at EE in-store only, so no
need to doubt especially as it is his 1st deal here!

Details:

Huawei P20 Pro on PAYG £499 + £10 min top up
Huawei P20 on PAYG £389 > £419 (random prices seen) + £10 min top up

Both (obviously!) are subject to actual stock, getting to the bigger EE stores, of which they have the P20 in limited amounts for this weekend's sales, the P20 Pro is sold out at EE nearly everywhere, due to the free bose headphone deal ((expired 5th April)) so expect to wait at least 3 weeks for the PAYG P20 Pro version, to pop up in smaller stores, most EE stores will not even get the P20 Pro physically, as all the pre-orders were for contract only sales first

I went to all 4 EE stores in centre Birmingham. They all refuse to sell me as PAYG. I feel humiliated. But I took this photo anyway. This price is in the system but in the table it is solid so we cannot buy it. Feels bad. (edited)

Considering they supply probably most of the network infrastructure for the whole of the EU I think you'd better get off of the internet if you are worried about that.

About the price it should be to be honest. The headphone offer was pretty good marketing by Huawei. Sell a £500 phone for £800 and throw in a ‘free’ pair of headphones that they probably paid £100 for. Given the pricing of the Mate 10 range, £400 for the P20 and £500 for the P20 pro is probably about right so I think this will be pretty standard price for this. Android phones always drop to well under RRP within a couple of months. Don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen on launch day though....

lol in case you didn't know uploading receipts go along way on here.

I pre-ordered on contract, so wouldn’t have a receipt other than contract paperwork. While waiting they had a display one set up, with the payg price. I even said to the staff member if that was correct, and he said yes. Considering carphone warehouse are selling this for £799, this is an amazing price and it only launched today.

Living in the UK or US means you're already being watched and metadata collected on you all the time by the government. I'd be more worried about Facebook and co. Using your own data to get you to buy things or influence things like your vote.

Yes it has 3 cameras and more pixels however end pictures look very close. The video at FHD is much better on the P20 Pro from what I saw as the stabilization is much better for video.

I'm not convinced checking them out (assuming in a shop) side by side would give you an iota of the real world performance. I'm sure if I put my Ford Focus alongside a Ferrari in a showroom I would be equally impressed with their gearsticks.

I totally agree. I don't understand the negative opinions towards EMUI, since I think it's fantastic. I have owned Huawei phones since September 2016 (firstly an Honor 8 and now a Mate 10 Pro), and think it's really intuitive.

I loved iOS and had every iPhone up to and including the iPhone 6, and the EMUI interface makes me feel at ease. It is almost identical to iOS, but I have the added ability to customise my phone however way I want thanks to it being an Android device.

Quite frankly, even if they are collecting all your data (their not), do you really think it's going to make 1 iota of difference to your safety, security and freedom?

The Chinese government probably can't even make sense of any texts or messages you send. Also the most shocking thing they'd probably find on your phone is obscene amounts of midget porn!

Have you actually been to China, yes it's far from perfect, but if you compare poverty and citizen standards of so called democracy like India you'd be on stoney ground. Yes I have been to both. You say that politics shouldn't be on here to close your arguments down which is what made me really chuckle. If you really dislike China don't buy anything from or manufactured there. You may struggle.

P20 would be far far better than a Galaxy S7. There is absolutely no comparison in terms of specs or performance or any aspect of the phone.

P20 is a far better phone.

You have totally misunderstood the specification of this phone. It has a high end chipset a Kirin 970 with dedicated AI processing, but and this is the big but (can't lie) it has the most insane camera setup on any phone ever. Go look at the specification of the triple camera setup on this phone, it doesn't just blow away every other camera on every other smartphone it annihilates them. The biggest camera performance improvement I've ever seen on a smartphone. This spec is insane and makes this phone a bargain >

    Triple: 40 MP (f/1.8, 1/1.7", OIS) + 20 MP (f/1.6) + 8 MP (f/2.4), Leica optics, 3x optical zoom, phase detection and laser autofocus, dual-LED dual-tone flash.

Not really surprised by the pricing of these new Huawei P20 phones. Huawei did state they will price these aggressively in the European market against Samsung and Apple as they are technically being frozen out in the US.
Anyway a win win for the consumer, and also hoping they succeed and take a big chunk out of Samsung and Apples market share in Europe so the prices we hope will drop due to this.

Have you not read about the lenses and camera performance of this phone? …Have you not read about the lenses and camera performance of this phone? Because most people will be buying it on the basis of those components and features. In which case comparing your Mate to the P20 Pro is like trying to make Beef Wellington with nothing but a tin of chopped tomatoes.

Yes I’ve read about the camera, just as I read about the camera on the mate 10 which was rated as better than any phone except the pixel 2. The reality is very different though. Despite the scores, reviews and Leica branding the camera is good but in auto mode, which is what 99% of people use it is no better than any galaxy from S7 onwards, any iPhone from 7 onwards, pixel, G6 etc.
Having played with the P20 pro in store, even with the addition of the third ‘gimmick’ camera there is very little difference between the Mate 10 and P20 pro and I thought some shots on the P20 were very poor in terms of noise and colour balance.
I know a lot of people will be buying this for the camera but I think in day to day use it won’t be any better than the mate 10 and won’t be a patch on the Pixel 2, S9 or iPhone 8/X.

I haven’t misunderstood anything. I know what this phone is, and it is essentially a mate 10 pro with a better camera - same processor, ram, screen etc. The Kirin 970 chip is very capable but it is already half way through its lifecycle and will be superseded in a few months time.
How much of an improvement the camera is remains to be seen but I suspect you’re getting a little over excited if you think it’s going to revolutionise the world of photography. Low light performance seems very good but chances are in the real world it will be an incremental upgrade of the mate 10 pro. Still very capable but not worth wetting ones pants over.

Many review sites (e.g. TheVerge) calls this the best phone of 2018 and yet its price is a lot more affordable than other flagships .. £500 is not cheap so this won't be the phone for everyone..but you can't deny it's a good price

They will have been bought direct from Bose at a little over cost price, which given headphones are just a couple of driver units with a PCB or two isn’t very much.Bose will have benefited from the huge amount of free advertising this deal has given them.Wholesale price of these would be about £180 in the quantities that are involved here. Cost price would be less than half of that so it’s perfectly feasible that they would cost Huawei around £100

I wholly disagree, but won't be continuing on the subject because it's just getting silly. I am totally confident that Bose wouldn't sell one of their leading products at less than a third of RRP. Car manufacturers sell cars in huge numbers to fleet companies, but they don't knock 70% off.

Shame it hasn't got a micro SD card, but for the price it's a steal.

Might be similar to iOS UI but they're not as retarded as Apple to not allow for grouped notifications. How they release iOS 11 without sorting out notifications is a joke. Can't even dismiss them all in one way on the lock screen. Sometimes Android is just smarter.
