Yup. I guess I wouldn't trust a smaller seller. They're more likely to have a 'refurb' phone that's been in a case and screen protector and looks pristine, but could still have a knackered old battery.
I'm sure they all have their own individual requirements for a refurbished phone, but I doubt all are the same tbh.
I like refurb items, you get significant savings, but it seems that anyone can sell a second hand phone in reasonable condition and declare it "a refurb". I don't mind too much except when it comes to the battery (unless the battery is replaced, of course.) Are there any 'refurb' rules on this that vendors should be following? @MrSwitch... Any thoughts? (I'm not saying this particularly about this deal, just refurb deals in general.)
'cos of the US shenanigans?
I wonder if the next big update will take away Google services?
Prices have tanked hugely since they were dropped from anymore future OS updates inc security. guess it's the easiest way for Huawei to use their owners as guinea pigs and be forced to move to harmonyOs if you require up-to-date security patches.
Thanks but tried again and nothing.
Awesome phone. I upgraded it for the s20 and I'm wondering why I bothered
Balls! Sorry I missed this. £140 is a no brainer for this phone...

Lot of phone for £179 Grade B: This device is in very good cosmetic condition. The device may have minor cosmetic wear such as light scratches and minor imperfections. Scre… Read more
Ordered this Thursday arrived this morning. If they call this grade c, grade a must come wrapped in £50 notes. Makes me feel ashamed of my own phone. It has one tiny dink on one corner and a few scratches around the charging port and otherwise it's spotless. Packaging and return label etc all very professional, most impressed! Just not sure why I bought it, I already have a p30 lite so it's hardly a stellar jump (but it does look nicer in the aura blue and it's got a teeny bit smaller body with the same size screen....)
Looks good, thanks
Great zoom on the camera as well l love mine. Has up to 30 times zoom. Above is at 30 times zoom . Can't fault the phone for this price. Getting Android 11 in March also. (y)
P30 gets google app updates and I personally used the fingerprint scanner was great, I had no faults
Does the Mate 20 pro offer Iris scanner like my Galaxy Note 9?So far I could unlock it even in a snow storm while wearing a baklava..
If they do they won't last long.
Agreed mate. As long as the price is right. After all, they were the budget arm of huawei so let's hope they don't bump the price thinking they are filling the GMS hole left by Huawei.
Certainly looks the part, and after weeks of reviewing phones with a 2mp crappy depth sensor, laser auto focus makes me smile. Add to that 120hz, and that brilliant processor, and if it has GMS, I'd like to get my ands on that
Nice idea, unless you live in NI - the bloody protocol they put in place to keep us part of EU has meant EU companies stop supplying us! #FAIL!
I believe it is illegal under UK consumer law to show (only) ex vat prices on a consumer website (they can show both, offer you to switch or show Inc VAT). That is one they have dropped the ball badly on - when I searched for a 99p/£1.19 item, they all came up as £1.19/£1.39 ish in the search results, which by contrast was well done by them. (y)
NB. I think at the moment I would only buy off Amazon for non UK and they guarantee prices and are upfront. AND DONT FORGET avoid WOWCAMERA, a disgusting company.. ... but (as ever) thanks OP
Looks an utter mess, crazy times. I personally put on offer on a jacket on ebay for £45 which the buyer accepted. When I went to pay 20% vat had automatically been added to the item and postage by eBay because it was coming from out of the uk. Never seen that before so buyer beware.
That article is misleading - if the total cost is under £135, there is nothing to pay on delivery (provided the seller declares the value correctly - they certainly won't value the item at under £135 if it cost more, as many Chinese sellers used to - that means they pay the VAT, but declaring over £135 you pay the VAT, plus import duty & courier fee).
Maybe not a bad shout, I'll have a look how much they go for
Another article about software updates; https://www.huaweicentral.com/huawei-mate-20-regular-software-updates-to-end-soon/
Best phone I have ever owned.
Deal no longer Available in any colour
1) The curved edges are stupid. 2) The photo colours are wildly over-saturated and/or inaccurate way too often and I hate that you can't disable face smoothing entirely. I am not a teenage girl. 3) Proprietary memory cards. Can't really think of anything else. I'd only change it to fix the niggles with the camera, which is irritating because that was why I bought it. Maybe for 5G. Oh and I wouldn't mind Dual SIM, but only as a luxury. Awesome phone though, I wouldn't change it unless a stellar deal slapped me in the face. Or, and I really hate to say it, losing free Google Photos storage makes Pixels much more attractive.
Not much difference between the mate 30 pro and p40 pro. Just think the p40 pro as being a face lift edition lol, probably why they're nearly the same price on cex
For the price you can't get anything better, as the specs a really good on the phone. You can't compare the mate and p series phones as the mate series usually is way ahead and your looking at silly money for that phone at the moment. (Between£800-£1100) Also, for you nan I would get an iPhone 6 or 7 as the software updates will be less available and slow the phone down. Maybe it's best to look for a newer iPhone and the updates will be more readily available. Just a thought
Same im hoping for a newer model as I tend to keep my phones for about 3 or so years! Can't decide on one (annoyed) I also need a cheapish iPhone for my nan if anyone knows of any deals (embarrassed) she's not very tech savvy so it'll have to be an iPhone.... she's had my iPhone 6plus since I got my note razer 1.0 and its starting to show its age
Not much of an upgrade then? Good to know
Yeah but the note 9 was released August 2018. It's still a great phone but if I'm going to change/upgrade I would want one 2019 or later at least
Tbh I bought it for a childs first phone so I'm sure she will be more than happy either way.
Yes some Google apps work some just will not work. I struggle with it not having google. The camera is lovely but would prefer a different phone
No it does not have GMS (google) out of the box. It can be sideloaded but success / level of ease if hit and miss plus there are still certain apps that won't work like some bank app (not all, some work)
Apparently some apps from Google will install but not all. That's what I read anyhow.
Does it have GApps or not? Doesn't look like it from the website...
What's the camera like on this phone compared to iPhone and Samsung please
Heat from me, especially when the mate 40 pro is double the price for not much more! Google services can be obtained on these and there are loads on YouTube to show you how it's done I would rather get the p40 pro for about the same price, with better screen and a upgraded processor giving it a slightly better life expectancy
No no too much for Apple. Huawei grabbed the 20% Apple lost in the first quarter of 2019 and that was it Trump happened.
<3 <3 <3
Huawei was just too much of a competition for samsung and apple hence the ban.
I got this and it came with the box and supercharger, pristine except a deep scratch on the corner of the camera rectangle and missing earphones from box. I set it up and downgraded firmware to 10.1.0.131 used googlifier app to install Google services. I then got OTA updates taking me up to EMUI 11. I then installed an app called Icebox and had to use ADB from my laptop to enter one command in order to freeze Google Services Framework app. Now all notifications are working fine but play store doesn't work. It's OK as I can use aurora store and it works perfect. The phone is super fast, has great battery life (especially standby) and the camera is outstanding. I came from Oneplus 7 Pro 5g as the camera on that is pretty crap unless you are in bright daylight. I've still got over a week to decide if I want to return but I think I will keep it and live with the slight limitations which are mainly: - either play store works and notifications are delayed or play store doesn't work and notifications are fine. This isn't an issue as there are plenty of other methods to get apps. - Google pay does not work for in store payments (no contactless or NFC). Amex pay doesn't work either. - "ok google" doesn't work without a lot of fiddling. For me, the only real alternative to get a great camera is to spend double the money on a Samsung. Wish I didn't sell my mate 20 x (lol)
Side load apps
No problem mate
Quick update on that. Received mine a couple days ago and it's brand spanking new.. Not a single scratch or mark on it. Thanks for the awesome fine bud.
Ahh that's a shame man. Does seem v hit and miss dual space.. I got everything working fine but now dual space just seems down.. Keeper for me though, even without dual space can still access all my Google stuff, just not a slickly as via the apps.

Can you still use banking apps through this method?
See my post above. I'm not sure that Biden will remove the restriction he's very critical of China, their politics and ethics so I think the sanction is likely to stay. I also think that Huawei won't be in a rush to reinstate Google services anyway even if the sanction is lifted because of their incredible work on HarmonyOS.

Any watch running Wear OS? Lots of choice, just not as well known as Apple (y)
There are some comments on reddit that it doesn't have very accurate heart rate tracking and gps. Can someone confirm?
Troops, just received the GT 2 pro, top notch. I have upgraded from the GT 1 and quality wise excellent. Am aware of the downfalls but as a fitness tracker / text reading watch with the new speaker and gigs it's well worth it. If u can get the student discount even better tho at £169 (of course I hear you say).
If your podcasts are on Google Podcast, you Samsung Galaxy watches can download them to the watch... but then again they're a similar price to the Apple Watch
Great thanks, it appears there is no other watch out there that actually does this other than Apple watch... dammmm you Apple ;)
Someone above in the comments purchased the Grade B version and said it was in excellent condition! It's a fantastic phone, purchased for a family member but had a while to fiddle around with it and compared to my P30 Pro, the higher resolution on the Mate 20 Pro really does make it stand out :D
There's a grade b left. I'm tempted....
Grade C, not too bad but definitely better than CEX's 'Grade C' for sure (y)
What grade did you get?
Thanks OP! Just got mine today, few scuffs on the top of the frame from wear and tear. Screen is the main culprit, two medium quite deep scratches and lots of little ones but overall it's okay!! (y)
hi Optom. I'm new here and still can't send messages. Can I leave my email here?
If anyone wants a code pm me. Regards.
Hello. I would like to get a coupon to buy at a discount for students. If anyone can get a coupon for me, I appreciate it. Thanks
I have the matepad pro and all the apps are easy to get except for Barclays. But I am a huawei fan so I've signed up to starling bank (that is in the huawei app store). Its a better bank and now after experiencing life without having my phone controlled by Google. While still having Google apps I need working. I am looking forward to getting a new huawei phone
Yes I've heard the audio isn't great, unlike the Mate 40. I didn't realise Google Pay wouldn't work. I should have known really. I've been tempted with the Mate after being uninspired by the Note 20 Ultra.
This watch has it's own health & various other apps installed, however, interestingly Huawei are now starting to give us some downloadable apps within their own systems https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/community/details/[Huawei-Watch-GT2-Pro]-The-New-Apps/topicId_38293/
Thanks. I hope a few have benefitted 😁
Good first post @Mikebellows and decent price! thanks for sharing :3
